The Power of the "LIKE" Button

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Keystone Realty RS294813

Since we are progressive community I'm sure many of you have realized that Facebook is taking the next step in linking using David Monsour, Realtorthe "LIKE" button.  If you remember they replaced the "Become a Fan" button with a "Like" button on Facebook business pages recently.  This seemed odd to us at first but Facebook is nearly as omniscient as Google so we just adapted and continued using this powerful social media outlet for business success.  It was merely the first step toward placing like buttons all over the web.

Perhaps the "Like" button was a personal shot at Google, and was an attempt to remove a lot of the linking that takes place within Facebook.  I'm sure most of you post your blogs into your status updates using links.  I know I do, and with great success.  People are still able to like your status, and this does potentially create a larger reader base for your material because when they "Like" something it is shown on their wall.

Yesterday I downloaded a plugin for my wordpress blog that places a "Like" button at the beginning and end of each blog post in wordpress (www.realty-insights.com  - still under construction but you can see the links).  The power behind this is that when my wordpress blog is "Liked" it puts a direct link on that persons wall.  If the "Like" function operates anything like Facebook hopes it should put a ton of eyes on all of these "Like" links.

For Example - What if someone in a surrounding town who you don't know stumbles upon your blog, and "Likes" it?  Well, this provides the opportunity for a whole new group of people to find your blog and potentially become future customers.

Here is a link to the Plugin for Wordpress

David,

The like button is  an issue that the FTC has been asked to investigate by 21 privacy groups.  Here is the article from Wharton,  It makes an interesting read.

I'll have to give that a read.  For now I'm leaving it up.  It's incredible how much exposure it can provide given that it's deemed legal.

I preferred the fan button.  It certainly can be confusing.

I have the plug in on my WordPress blog.

I have used the tool to put it on my AR blog but I  keep forgetting to use it.

The fan button is a thing of the past, but the "like" is going to add a lot of options.  That Wharton link posted above makes for an interesting read.

This looks like another way you have helped me personally make my blog better.  I appreciate your efforts David and have implemented a couple of your ideas already.

David,

We are also fans of the Facebook "like" button.  Keep in mind that it is one of many Social Profile buttons (apps) needed by Real Estate Professionals nowadays.

We also deploy the Twitter, Linkedin, Technorati, Feedburner, RSS, Active Rain, BlogCatalog & myBlogLog. We all have to get used to being everywhere at all times if you we want to be involved in the conversation and community.

These profiles become extensions of our web presences and ultimately should be weaved into a proper Social Strategy.

We do wonder how Facebook will weather the "Privacy" storm ... TBD ...

I'm using twitter, linkedin, flickr, facebook, and AR.  I don't have time to get involved with much more than what I listed.  You can certainly snag a lot of online market share with a diverse set of social media outlets.  I'm way ahead of the curve in my area as a professional.  Now I need to public to catch up.

David - thanks for the tips, trying to learn more about Facebook now.  Can this be used for AR blogs as well?

I haven't discovered how to use it on AR yet, but I'll look into it.  Facebook is excellent for business.  I post my blogs URL to my facebook wall, that way people can like it that way.
