Blogger Is Posting.......But Not Saying Anything

First of all, let me apologize for the look of this post.  My readers know that I always have some cool picture to go along with my post.  Proxy errors are preventing me from uploading pictures at this time.

Have you ever noticed that there are some bloggers who appear to be blogging for points only?

They blaze onto the scene.  Comment on 10 blog posts a day with comments that don't make sense.....ie

"that great"  "good work"  or some nonsense that takes them 2 seconds to write.

The same people are very good at reblogging. Ooooooh  just in case you didn't know, I don't think there is a limit on the number of articles you can reblog. So they reblog everything.  Oh yeah......and they do write 10 blog posts a week, but there is no thought put into the posts and they are very short and usually don't contain any information that is of use to the public or fellow Realtors.

I am sorry for this rant, but some things really get under my skin.  I started blogging to share useful information with my potential clients.  Do I blog for points....of course, we all do.  However, my points are hard earned.  I try to take the time to create articles that are meaningful and useful to the home buyers and home sellers in Burlington & Camden County New Jersey.  Will I get points for THIS useless post....yes, but Bob or Brad, feel free to take the points away fo this post.

What are you thoughts on the bloggers that are only blogging for points?

There will always be people in the world who manipulate the system and do the least they can to get to the top.  They do themselves a disservice, but people out there are looking for information and a person they can relate to.  These people give neither, so ultimately I think they miss the whole point (pun intended).

Leander,

Besides being able to market your product on Active Rain, it is a great site for information.  Thanks for taking this seriously.

I hate when I see the obvious cut and paste comments, the same exact comment that shows up on blogs over and over and have nothing to do with the blog at all, so obvious that they did not read the blog... it may as well be spam... I have actually taken their comments and cut and pasted them as a comment on their blogs just to make a point... but it doesnt seem to help

Leander - There is enough rain to go around for everyone and everyone has their own idea of what is good for them ..... points, especially comment points, while fun do little for local search engine results. I have not checked with my web guy for some time but AR had apparently put some no follow coding into their comments section so the links in them are not followed. Also I believe they are changing or have changed some of the SEO stuff to favour your outside blog and localism where you can sponsor buy the top spot. Bottom line ..... It no longer bother me as it is not the reason I am here.

Leander, I agree with your thoughts, but I try to look at it more positively. If the manipulation and thoughtlessness is so obvious to "us", I'm sure the potential clients rereading posts will realize the same thing. Most will likely choose someone who posts with substance. Hang in there and let them separate themselves!

Leander, "good work", sorry I couldn't help that. I look at it this way, to each his own, I use my AR site as I see fit, what I do and what others do can be completely different. I do agree with you however, I do what I do on AR with no thought to how others handle their blogs. Have a great weekend

Thanks guys for your comments. I try not to let things get to me, but you know how it is.  Bruce - I love your comment "let them separate themselves".  In the end, the cream always rises to the top.

Everyone have a fantastic weekend and thanks for being good sports.

Have another great day

tee - hee Leander... I just couldn't resist! Seriously it's not so much the lack of thoughts to comments but watching some of the blogs that you know are just being posted for points go on the blogroll one right after another.  Oh well, there's always the knowledge that they won't get to drink from the Google well if that's all they are blogging for.  Enjoy your week-end my friend!

Leander ~ I get irritated sometimes with people blogging for points and feel like ranting so I understand where you are coming from. I have noticed the members who blog for points usually stop showing up after a while. There will always be people like that so I try not to worry about them. I try to stick with those who have something to say and then leave a comment.

Thanks Sally :)

Terrie - you are right, I try not to worry about them, but its hard when you see them appear out of nowhere and zoom past you in points when they are posting a bunch of nonsense.  But as others have said, consumers probably notice.  I wonder how much business these folks generate with this strategy?  That would be interesting to know.

Oh well, back to writing another meaningful post.

Have a great day

I have two comments... first is on the Proxy Errors... I actually stopped blogging because it was driving me crazy. Glad its fixed now though and perhaps I'll get back into the swing of things.

As for the 'points getters' who only comment for the 25 points... well, if thats how they want to be known then let them be. The fact is, the points really mean nothing. In the big picture, the points don't help your google juice or get you business. The full conversation posts/comments is what solidifies a relationship on Activerain and ultimately is what will help your business.

In addition to business, the conversations help you learn. I read a lot of solid posts and when I ask questions for clarification or further details, it helps me learn more after someone responds to my question. So, I am here for the relationships and not the points. :-)

I have to admit that there have been times that I have fallen into the trap of thinking about the points.  Whenever I do that, my posts are pretty lame!  None of my posts are exceptional but when I concentrate more about content and the people I am trying to reach the response is definitely better.  And why would't it be?  If the entire focus in on points, the end result will never be what as good as if content was more important.

Thanks for the rant.  Have a great evening.  BTW, good post!
