A PHOTO OPPORTUNITY TOO GOOD TO PASS UP!

By
Real Estate Agent with Prudential CT Realty

Today, I was out showing more bank-owned homes to a client of mine, and we have begun to rank order the properties in terms of RANKNESS.   As we approached the first home on our list of three, we saw a sign plastered on the front door warning us of GREAT AMOUNTS OF MOLD

No written warning was necessary; it hit us as soon as we opened the door (wish that I had a gas mask).  So in the interest of health, we quickly peaked in every room, and sure enough found that mold was present in great amounts.  One closet had fuzzy green stuff hanging from the rod.

But what I saw in the bedroom made me do a double take:  There were MUSHROOMS GROWING OUT OF THE CARPET.  I have NEVER seen this before!  So instead of getting out of there as fast as I could, I ran to the car to get my camera because this was a PHOTO OPPORTUNITY!

You are awfully brave, Peggy! I would have ran for the hills. Maybe this will be an award-wining photo. Shouldn't the health dept. or someone shut that place down? It was on the MLS?? I really haven't seen it all!

Yikes...definitely not the eating kind. I am curious what kind of an impression that made on the buyers?

How could anyone allow a property to get like that?  Truly amazing.

Hi Peggy~  It is different all right! It is really disgusting if you really think about it!  It almost looks fake!

I have shown many bank owned properties and often I worry about any negative impact to the health of my clients or me from being in these neglected homes.  Many times I feel like running home and taking a hot shower after some of these showings.  I've seen a lot of bad stuff, but never mushrooms growing out of the carpet.  Thanks for sharing Peggy!

Peggy,

That's gross. I wonder if there was a slab leak in that spot? There must be some kind of moisture source in that area for those mushrooms to grow.

Peggy - I've seen mushrooms growing in vacant houses only a small number of times!  I always wonder how the spores got there.  Usually, it's in some corner, where there isn't any foot traffic!

Hi Peggy, I has seen this post earlier and your description was amazing. You wonder how this is even possible. I found this post very interesting and one for the books in amazing things encountered in our  professional .

Thanks, everyone, for stopping by to take a look!  I really hope you don't have to see it "live" (so to speak!).

Mushrooms make interesting subjects for photography, but they really don't belong inside, especially growing out of the carpet. LOL
