Warm weather+humidity= Termites

We typically only think about wood destroying insects such as termites when we go to buy or sell a home.  But the average home sells every five to seven years,  And insects don't have off days, much less off years. Wood destroying insects cost Americans two to three billion dollars a year.

The problem is exacerbated by the fact the we have had an unusually warm and wet spring in central Texas. In fact, we may have the worst termite (and other pest) problem in five years. Our bats under Congress Avenue and in the University of Texas stadium do a great job of helping us, by eating insects while we sleep. But this has been a hot and moist spring, so our mascots may have their hands full.

How should you combat this? Get involved. Look for damaged wood, or paper in and around your home. And always consult a professional when it comes to such things. I recommend that my clients get a pest control treatment once every twelve to eighteen months.

Hi Scott ~ Thank goodness there are some side benefits of winter - fewer bugs is a huge plus in my book. I'll try and remind myself of that next winter when I'm complaining!
