Referrals to Services other than Realtors

By
Real Estate Agent with North Kansas City Real Estate, Reece and Nichols Residential

I've been thinking to adding to my webpage referrals, or a WHO I USE page on my website.... what's your opinion of that?

We have an excellent A/C and Heating person we do business with.  I have a great painter. A great moving company...fabulous roofer.... I'm thinking about starting a webpage with their contact information on my webpage.

What are your thoughts on including that "type" of stuff on our real estate websites?

I mean they do GREAT work for us, why not share their names and business names?

How do you feel about this?

I have a page on my site for referrals. Like you, I have certain service workers that do a great job so I refer people to them. It will be interesting to see what other people say about this but my answer is, Why not??

Our office has the policy that we don't refer anyone - they can choose from a list of vendors we keep in the office.  For good reason - it's a slippery slope.  For example, I thought I had a great floor guy.  He did a couple of great jobs for us.  The next time I hired him (to do a laminate floor), the guys he used didn't do a good job.  After 3 months of my calling to try to get him to come out and fix the seams, I ended up doing it myself.  I was really glad I hadn't referred him to anyone.  What if he had done that to someone I had referred him to?  It's MY reputation.

That was the primary reason we added an associates list to this site to allow people to add the various service providers that they recommend.  Unfortunatly for many people it morphed into something different.

If any of your recommended providers all into the catagories for this website you should invite them to create a profile and then add them to your associates list.

Like Tori's, our office also has a list of vendors.  If a client asks us for a vendor, we give them a list of people we know or who are on the office vendor list and let the client decide.  We've been cautioned not to recommend a single vendor, I supposed for liability purposes.

On my website the only vendor I have are LOs and I have three of them.  I have some sort of business relationship with them but I never steer a client to any one of them.

We have a page of preferred partners as we say.  Available upon request.  I don't post these on the net but do have a letter in our 10 years of letters plan that tells them we have a great little black book if you ever need a painter, plumber or post digger.  In 18 years I have had one request for a name from the black book.  We get asked all the time for recommendations and found it best to always give at least 3 and let them decide who matches their needs best.  The vendors who have provided outstanding referrals and service have recognition plaques in our office!
