Baby Sandhill Cranes with Mom and Dad in Timber Greens on the Golf Course-New Port Richey FL

By
Real Estate Agent with Sailwinds Realty

We were enjoying the early morning sights and sounds in our back yard when along came Mom and Dad Sandhill with their two new babies. Sandhill Cranes are fantastic parents and guard their children very carefully. The kids were running all over and modeling their parents searching for food (lizards, toads, insects). Unfortunately, we also have crows in the area: last season a baby was killed and eaten by crows despite the parents attempts to fight them off. Your welcome, Kathy. They really are cute. Mom and Dad stay together for life; the babies are here for 6-7 months before they go off on their own.

Wow - I've never seen a crane like this before.  Even the babies have such long legs.  Great shots - how fun to have a front row seat to all the action!

Hi Anna & Rita, I'm glad I could get the pictures an share them with all of you. The babies are so awkward and clumsy but so very cute. Thanks for stopping by.

Toni, I've never seen babies either.  I hear the adults flying over, at least back in northern Illinois.  Once a single adult landed in my back yard in Illinois...big bird...it just took a leisurely stroll around my property and took off.  Great looking birds.
