I hate being criticized or having someone even imply that I am wrong about something. (I know--this is an unusual character trait.) I will drop everything to spend hours researching the subject to get the right answer. I sure do hope I'm right!
There are two reasons why I often go into a frenzy to make sure I am correct about something I write about on ActiveRain or my website. One is that, like almost everybody else, I have an ego to protect! I love giving advice and information, often without even being asked, so I hate having to admit I'm wrong.
For you American TV fans, I am a cross between Cliff Claven and Monica Geller.
The other reason is I have clients to whom I want to give the best service ever, the buyers and sellers I work for in the San Antonio metro area. If I'm wrong about something, it could have major consequences for them. I want to do my best for the people who hire me to act in their best interests.
So if you email me offline that I am incorrect in something that I posted or commented about on someone else's blog, I will check it out. And I will courteously and tactfully reply to your message. If I was wrong, I'll admit it. I will even go back and correct the post or comment. If I was right, I will include references and be gracious about it. I'll assume you were trying to help.
But if you email me back again that I am still incorrect, I don't know what I'm talking about, I will start to get annoyed. If you were so sure you were right and I was wrong, why didn't you post your comment publicly?
Occasionally I am reminded that I don't know everything. Just don't rub it in.
