Buffalo Grove - How to find an Urgent Care Center

Have you just moved to the  Buffalo Grove Area?  Are you looking for a Buffalo Grove Urgent Care Center... Read on

Kids and accidents go together like peanut butter and jelly.  Unfortunately, I have found out the hard way that the best time to find an urgent care center in Buffalo Grove and other Chicago Northwest Suburbs isn't when trying to calm a child that just dislocated his elbow.

We're very lucky in Buffalo Grove and other adjacent Chicago Northwest Suburbs  to have many options available for both urgent and emergent care. Urgent care can best be defined as care for acute injuries, common illnesses, minor medical problems, or routine care when a personal physician is unavailable  In the past five years, I have utilized the  Buffalo Grove area's urgent care centers for the dreaded middle-of-the-night double ear infection, the strep throat that invades on a Sunday afternoon, the "oh my gosh what is she allergic to now" case of hives and the "how exactly did your cousin hurt your hand by sitting on it" broken bones.

In Buffalo Grove, you can find multiple locations for urgent care, but the one I find easiest to access is the Northwest Communicty Hospital Urgent CareNorthwest Community Hospital Immediate Care Center at the corner of Lake-Cook Rd. and Rt. 83.  This Buffalo Grove Urgent Care Center facility is open 24 hours a day and has a special waiting room and amenities for children such as VCRs in the treatment rooms.  Believe me, if you have ever had to wait for a strep test to come back for a six-year-old, you will really begin to appreciate the in-room movies.  There is also the Healthy Trust Immediate Medical Care Clinic in Wheeling on Milwaukee Ave just south of Dundee Rd. and the Condell Immediate Care Center on Half-Day Rd. just east of Buffalo Grove Rd.

For emergency care, theAdvocate Condell Medical Centerin Libertyville has the only dedicated, pediatric emergency department in the area and seems to be about the same distance from Buffalo Grove as Highland Park  Hospital or Glenview Hospital.  Of course, in extreme emergency situations you should always dial 911 and have the paramedics determine the appropriate treatment and facility for your child. If in doubt, please always consider the situation an emergency.

One new category for the treatment of minor illnesses is the wellness clinic that you may find in major retailers such as Walgreens and Wal-Mart.  These clinics normally staff nurse practitioners and physician's assistants that can diagnose and treat ailments such as strep throat, pink eye and ear infections if care is needed after normal physician hours.  There is a Walgreens Take Care Clinicin Libertyville which is about a 20 minute drive from Buffalo Grove.

One of the best things I did when I moved to the area was locating these facilities and make a "dry-run" to each one.  It's never fun to think about accidents, but we all know they will happen.  The peace of mind that you will have by knowing a course of action in the event of an emergency is well worth the time it takes in planning.

All too often people forget to think about medical facilities when making the move to a new town. This is a great reminder of what's available to them when moving to the Buffalo Grove area, Judy.

Good localism post.  And after questions about school districts, inevitably medical facilities are asked next.
