From the Alameda Association or Realtors Press Release...

Homes in Alameda have a new favorite color, and it's green.

Don't worry: our prized Victorians won't lose those colorful yellows, purples, and indigo exterior finishes; it's just that these beautiful homes may boast more and more "green" features. Many homeowners and home remodelers in the Island city are choosing a more eco-friendly approach to their dwellings, mirroring a national trend toward more eco-friendly housing and lifestyles.

With the advent of technologies aimed at energy conservation and improved performance, green homes focus on blending resource-efficient devices like tankless water heaters and dual pane window glass with building supplies comprised of recycled or reclaimed materials. The net effect: a healthier planet and, often, a more valuable home.

On Saturday, July 17th the Alameda Association of REALTORS and their AFFILIATE partners will host the Green Home Expo at the Alameda Towne Centre from 10 am to 4 pm. The fun and informative free public event, which will range throughout the outdoor walkways at the Towne Centre, celebrates the growing interest in green building, awareness, and lifestyle.

The Green Home Expo will showcase the latest environmentally friendly products, services, and technology used in the homebuilding and home improvement industries. It's also a chance for attendees to learn about the newest innovations and trends through top industry speakers and exhibits.

Alameda's REALTORS invite the community to experience and support green homebuilding and green living. Recognizing that we can no longer ignore the impact that we all have on the earth's ecosystems, the Green Expo seeks to advance awareness to community members of products and services that have a positive impact on the quality of life that we all enjoy in Alameda.

Kids are invited to play with the Mad Science Team, who will be providing hands-on experiments and their "Up in the Air" Mad Science show. In addition to the trade show, other activities include face painting and a building competition for green home builders of the future.
