I hope every real estate agent knows that our industry has a political lobby. Yes, we do. It's called, of all things, RPAC or REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC).I hope further still that your local REALTOR® Board raises awareness in your MLS about the importance of funding this lobby and that you contribute yearly.

Today I was asked by our state RPAC agent coordinator, Ken Clark, a highly respected and top producing agent, to join RPAC's fundraising efforts by becoming RPAC's liason at our brokerage, Remax Real Estate Concepts, an 86 agent strong and growing entity. It was an honor I readily accepted.

I decided early on in my career that I would do what it took to make enough money to be a major contributor to RPAC and each and every year since my rookie year I have done so. Why you may ask? Well, who among us thinks that politicians universally make good decisions? You have to take classes and a test to be a real estate agent, not so for politicians. You just need to get elected. Politicians then get together to pass laws that effect other people, and cost money.

Depending on the year, there are at least a dozen legal initiatives that threaten our industry, our paychecks, our communities, our clients, our futures. RPAC is our voice at the national and local level that helps to beat back the endless stream of legislation aimed at curbing our lively hoods and our freedoms. When you contribute to RPAC 70% of your contribution stays with your local lobby and 30% of it goes to Washington so that our national lobby has the strength it needs to protect us.

I'm looking forward to doing all I can to further the aims of RPAC and our industry. If you'd like more information about contributing either your time or making a financial donation consider contacting your local Board and asking how you might support RPAC's mission.

Good description of RPAC and congrats on being part of it.  Especially right now while we post there are folks on the hill still trying to tax our industry more. Thanks RPAC for keeping them in check.

Good job I think we should take care of ourselves and not rely on a gov. agency to help us.

Matt,

We just discussed RPAC at our most recent office event.  Our goal is to have 100% participation.  Our local board far exceeded its goal.  We need to be heard!
