Do you have a home for sale in Murphy, North Carolina? There's good news on the horizon for you as a Cherokee County seller! We know it's been tough for you as sellers with all the negative stories you hear every day and we wanted to pass along some positive news for a change.
Our busy summer season will be here in just a few weeks and all indications point to a better real estate market than we had in the summer of 2009. Here's why:
- April sales figures are in and home sales last month are up over those of a year ago, following a trend that began last fall. You can read all about it in my April Real Estate Market Report.
- Prospective buyers are hitting our Country Homes and Land website, driving around Murphy looking at property, calling our office to ask about "for sale" signs, and walking into our office daily. Activity is definitely up!
- Interest rates are still at historic lows. Economists predict that rates will begin to rise in the coming months and buyers wanting to lock in the low rates know they must act soon.
- Inventory is down from a year ago and we're seeing fewer foreclosures and distress sales on the market as bargain-shopping buyers snap them up.
- Finally - and best of all - last week the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians announced that they are buying 800 acres of land between Murphy and Marble and we may have a new casino here in Cherokee County as early as next year. Here's my blog with all the details about the new Indian casino coming to the mountains near Murphy, NC . If you'd like more information, you can read my latest follow-up Just HOW MUCH Are the Cherokee Indians Paying for 800 Acres - And is Any of It Near MY Land?
We've already sent out an email alert to all our prospective buyers, letting them know that now is the time to buy! Closing has already taken place on one of the parcels of land and once the word gets out, I think that buyers looking for a home in the mountains who have been sitting on the sidelines will decide it's time to act.
