Since becoming a member of Active Rain in the spring, I have loved this forum. I immediately became conscious of the point system, what it meant, and how to gain points. Of course, the points are significant, but they are not my main objective on ActiveRain; however, I do occasionally check out where I rank, whose ahead and just below me, etc. I have noticed recently that a few of the blogs that I posted had earned points, but the points were deducted because the post included materials-jokes & funny pictures- that are not point worthy. That's okay though, I won't quit providing the ActiveRain family with the jokes that I come in contact with which may serve to lighten the load of their day. I post many blogs about everything under the sun, including virtual assistance, faith, family, community, events and yes- clean jokes.

As long as I keep getting feedback telling me that the laugh made someone's day, or someone says, "I really needed that laugh, I had a rough day", I will continue to post pointless blogs with a great point!

Laughter IS good for the soul!

Yeah, I lost some points for the 1st time the other day. I was initially shocked and appauled but like you said if someone else benefited from it then it is still worth it.

Good for you.  Points aren't everything, now are they!  I was on active rain for almost a month before I decided that I should pay attention to points. I do see how they are of great benefit but I agree with you completely about posting your jokes, etc. even if you do not get points.  We all need to laugh and there's just not enough to laugh about at times.  Thanks for staying so positive.  I look forward to hearing funny things from you.

Gwendolyn~ Since joining AR you've been a joy to have around! Don't change!

I remember the first blog I ever made and someone commented about how the points should have been awarded to another member who commented....I said "who cares about points??!!"

Well, I care a little more now because I understand the significance, but really in the end, its about the relationships we forge and the things we learn.

Have a Blessed Sunday!

I too think its the quality of the post and not the points...  people make comments to the popular bloggers, (Popular because of good writing material)

I'm pretty confident that the talented blogger is not concerned at all with points.

In fact that is what makes their subscribers grow. Jokes, faith, work related tips, and letting your readers gain a few personal insites about the authors.

Points? Nah. I say a successful blogger!

Keep bloggin away- you have many subscribers who like reading what you have to offer, and the points become a moot point...

Connecting with people through jokes and humor feels way better than getting points.  Laughter is definitely healthy and good for the soul.

I completely agree with you on the points.  It's nice to be ranked up high, but it's not the "point" for most blogging activities.

As a VERY new rainer I have noticed that a lot of the people who are ranked near the top don't even put much effort into their blogs.  Most of their material is copy and pasted from news sources, without even a personalized comment.  Seems a rather blatant attempt at just getting the 200 points per blog "award".  I don't knock the inclusion of news and events from local news sources, because those are important, but at least have a blog entry here and there that is written by you.

Keep up the jokes.  I may steal one or two from time to time (with the appropriate credit given!).  Enjoy your week!

I love the points, but no one gives me points for other blog posts and I'm glad there are more of us who see this opportunity to communicate and share beyond those wonderful points.
