51st Year Of Boatnik - Grants Pass, Oregon
It's almost Memorial Day weekend, so that means it almost time for Boatnik!
This will be the second time we've attended Boatnik, (we moved here about 18 months ago), and are looking forward to it, as I'm sure everyone else down here is.
The Active Club of Grants Pass has been sponsoring Boatnik since 1959. The goal of the club is to give support to the kids in our community, and their motto is "No man stands as tall as when he kneels to help a child." There are dozens of other sponsors for Boatnik; many local retail businesses, radio stations, construction companies, auto dealerships, restaurants, banks and many more.
This year's Boatnik kicks off on Thursday, May 27th at 1:00 p.m. when the carnival rides and midway open at Riverside Park. The rides and midway continue through Memorial Day on Monday.
On Friday, May 28th, you can catch a boat show, baseball game, bingo, golf game, water ski show, a 60's dance and John Wayne show, and finish off the day with fireworks.
On Saturday, May 29th, Boatnik continues with breakfast, more baseball and golf, the Boatnik parade, Sprint boat racing and Drag boat exhibition on the river, pizza eating contest, and children's ID booth.
Sunday's Boatnik schedule continues with more boat racing and exhibition on the river as well as baseball and golf.
On Memorial Day, May 31st, Boatnik finishes up with even more boat racing, an ice cream social, and most importantly the Active Club's Memorial Day ceremony, which is a very emotional and well done memorial.
You can check out Boatnik's website to get all the details, location and time information.

Greg, how on earth did they come up with that name? Sounds like a fun way to spend Memorial Day Weekend.

We're looking forward to attending Boatnik again this year, especially if the suns out! I'm not sure where the name came from, I'll have to check into that.
