Michael - this is a municipal election year here in Ontario and Uxbridge generally gets a better than average turn out but people seem to be too involved in life to worry or bother with local politicalissues unless it directly affects them.Is it the same in your area?

Apathy usually runs rampant but this election cycle is proving to be a little different.  Eastvale is an 'unincorporated' section of Riverside County that was primarily dairy farms in the 1990s.  The last 10 years has seen a major development push and today the area has more than 10,000 homes and 40,000 residents.  The June 8th ballot includes a measure to incorporate the area - the birth of the new city of Eastvale.  This will place a local government of a city council (with five elected officials) into place rather than governance from the county seat.  It's generated much more buzz than the typical election.

Michael - I find it interesting that people are only apathetic at election time (when it is their turn to step up to the plate) ..... in between they are very outspoken about the the various things governments do and how much of our hard earned money they take

Kathy - Yes it is an interesting phenomenon.  Some of our 'minor' elections garner less than 30% turnout while we all have the responsibility to vote.
