As a self employed person your biggest asset is meeting enough people who will use your services and/or refer to you. A really good way to meet people is to take classes. I don't mean classes at the local board. Those are necessary but you only meet other Realtors- not your client base.
The best classes to take are those classes that meet for several weeks, not the one day classes. This way you get to meet people gently and slowly and naturally. Here in the Silicon Valley/Bay Area all of the colleges have classes that interest most people.
On my desk right now are brochures from West Valley College, University of California Santa Cruz, and Stanford University. Some classes are on-line. That is NOT what you want. You have a two pronged goal; to meet potential clients and to educate yourself.
There are classes in Marketing, Leadership, Real Estate, Public Speaking, Languages, Religion- you name it and chances are there is a class.
Some of the classes for 10 weeks can cost as much as $800...expensive. But, what is one transaction worth? What is a steady referral source worth? Educate yourself and get paid.
