Protesting Property Tax Appraisals

If you haven't already received your Notice of Appraised Value from your local Appraisal District you will soon.  If you want to protest the appraised value there are certain guidelines and timelines you should adhere to.
The deadline on when your last protest date is depends on when the Notice is sent out.  Typically they go out in batches with sliding deadline dates.  The Notice will have your specific deadline noted on it.  It is generally 30 days from the date of the Notice (not from the date you received it).
The designated value is required to indicate the property value as of January 1st of that year and not at the time the Notice is actually processed.

The appraised value that is assigned to your property in the Spring along with the Tax Rate that is established in the Fall dictate what the annual tax amount will be.  The payment of taxes may vary depending on the area.  Historically taxes in our part of the State are due and payable in their entirety at the end of the year.

Hope these tips help,
