It's Sunday and as usual we took in a matinee. It was no contest. Irene wanted to see the third installment in the Bourne trilogy too. I don't want to know why. It's enough that I get to go without having to first win her version of WWIII.

So what is this Bourne thing, you ask?

Before there was Tom Clancy there was Robert Ludlum. There were all kinds of rumors about where he got his "ideas." Some said he had a direct line to the head of the CIA. Some said other things about him. I don't know. I don't care.

I read all his books when they first came out.

The Bourne Ultimatum came out in 1990.

I don't know why they are just getting around to making ‘em into movies. This movie has almost no story line, but it does keep moving. And if you like car chases, this one will definitely satisfy.

The theater was absolutely quiet thoughout the showing. No ooooohs, no aaaaaahs, no applause. Nothing.

I'm still glad I went.

This could have been done in 30 minutes to get to the real identity of Jason Bourne - the rest seemed like gratuitous violence and never ending car chases.

Julie, you really think that it needed 30 minutes to tell the whole story? Wow! I was thinking 15.

Hi Bill, It was good except for the way it was filmed. More camera movement and out of focus film than I have ever watched before. With all the action created mostly by those gimmicks, it was tiring to watch, though good and I would recommend it as it is good film overall. I am more critical, ( perhaps better trained about camera movements that actually created a lot of the action), I would have expected better of this director. Then again,he also might also be considered genius as he created a great deal of action for free, when the only thing actually moving was the camera, upside, downside, side to side, jerking frenetically and mostly slightly out of focus which created even more suspense.

Hi William, See what I was doing while you answered all those "tablet PC" questions? I'm "technologically" challenged so this is more my speed.

Bill, I love this series of movies.  Like you, I read every one of Ludlum's books as soon as they came out.  But, actually, there was a Bourne Identity movie that they put out in 1988 starring Richard Chamberlain as Jason Bourne - co-star was Jaclyn Smith as Marie St. Jaques.  It did the book NO justice so I'm thrilled they brought it back and did it right this time.  I can't wait to see this new one.

Cheers

Ludlum is a such a great read! I have enjoyed the movies too because, I think, I expect nothing but just enjoy.

I saw this movie on Friday too.  I really enjoyed the first one and kind of enjoyed the second but I felt pretty dissapointed with the third.  The whole shaky camera bit is starting to make me feel sick.  They do this in so many movies now and I keep wondering if the director's really think this works.  I might have enjoyed it more if I saw more of it?

"Russ, prepare yourself. NO STORY."

I can live with no story as long as it still has all the great action scenes.  Although I don't know how it will sit with my wife :)

Thanks for the post, I saw an advanced screening last week and I too didn't care for all the "herky-jerky" cameral filming...heard a bunch of comments from others around that they had headaches or had some sort of motion sickness, etc...I would think if there are guys like this trained to kick a$$ that they could enter the UFC and dominate...but I know it is only a movie.

Bill-

I've read all the books too (but I've got to admit it was after I saw the first movie) and I LOVED them.  I've enjoyed the movies so far (haven't seen this one yet).  Is the Jackel in this at all?  I don't recall him being in the other movies... maybe I need to watch them again....

Debi, no Jackel, watch them again for sure.

I just saw this movie last night. One thing that has bothered me about all the Bourne movies is the use of camera movement to cover up for the lack of choreography in the fight scenes.
