Darn Brits, They Speak Funny English, But They Do Have Talent…

I have to admit that I am a huge fan of American Idol.  And ‘You think You Can Dance’. They fascinate me with their creativity, talent, ability to work under extreme pressure… It is a fascinating show, because it shows how much one can achieve if s/he is put in extreme competitive environment.

We do not know what we can do until and unless we are put to a test and are pressured to the limit. It is not what people can, that stuns me, and it is how they can grow creatively and talent-wise in such a short time. We are listening to them singing, and we are watching them maturing and becoming strong people… American Idol and Real Estate - Jon ZolskyRight in front of our eyes…

I do not watch Britain’s got Talent. I have seen Susan Boyle, and it was a stunning performance. It was not maturing, it was an event, a captivating, enlightening, fascinating, but event, not the process, at least for me.

And now a new (for me) surprise from across the Ocean. Just watch this audition, and I am sure you would enjoy it as much as I did.

Darn Brits, they speak funny English, but they do have talent… (LOL)

1st  Disclaimer: if you thing that I have something against Brits (and their ‘broken’ English), you are too serious. Please, smile

Jon, amazing, just amazing. If an 80 year old can do that, the rest of us should be able to achieve our dreams too. I heard about this, but didn't see it, thank you. Really made me a bit misty eyed.

Motivating! I am in my 50's and sometimes think I am too old to take on something new, and then I see someone like her and my perspective changes!

Ha !  We should make it to 80 with No Regrets - whether or not we can sing about it.

Thanks, Jon.  BTW - I have tended to prefer the Britain has Talent show to American Idol.

Also BTW - the video clip appears to be reversed (flipped)

Hi Jon, The Brits seem to have some talent that is being discovered. Between Australia and England, they give the US a real run. There is never too talent in the world so I am for all of it. I must admit that You Tube really does help me a lot to locate some of the very best no matter where they are from. Simon seems to be the real expert on what will be the best commercially. He is a Brit.

Hi Jon!  I'm laughing at your Brit comments--I just read something else written here tonight that had something about 'that Brittish guy!' in it!  Cute post and I have to agree--I'm intrigued by the amount of talent that one can display when put into an incredibly competitive environment.  Much like business, when we're motivated, we perform!

Hope you have a wonderful week...

Debe - maybe our environment is too protective and we kill the talent inside because of that. My grandson is going to college this year, and nobody, including him, knows if he is capable of working hard. He never had to...

The RIGHT CHARLOTTE REALTOR!

Hi Jon!  Funny but, I've got two in college now--total opposites as far as personality and academia goes.  My introvert, book-smart, good student, oldest went off to college three years ago and became the social butterfly and completely forgot that he was in college to learn!  He did NOTHING!  We finally said, "If you want to go to college, you'll have to work and pay for it yourself--we're not paying for you to go to college to party!"

Our extrovert, athelete, all-round funny guy, who we thought would be the one to goof off in college, wound up making the Dean's List, working extremely hard in his classwork and managing to balance school and fun, and has done beautifully!

What did we do differently?  Absolutely nothing!  It's a gamble when they go off to college--at least it has been for Ray and I!  Both boys worked since they were 15 to start saving to pay their auto insurance. We figured that if they had to pay for that, they'd work hard to be safe drivers so as not to pay the inflated rates in the event they had accidents.  If we were paying for insurance, they had no incentive to be good drivers!  We also thought that it would teach them responsibility.

Worked for one...not so much for the other!  I am so incredibly happy for my older one who has learned social skills and has truly blossomed into a wonderful young man but, I hate the fact that he didn't learn to juggle both working hard for your grades as well as becoming 'Mr. Social!'

College is unchartered territory for our children and grandchildren and we just never know what is going to happen when they leave home on their new adventure!  Hopefully the lifelong lessons in hard work will payoff for your grandson.  Where is he going to be going to college?
