How many times have you heard someone say this about land? They just aren't making any more of the stuff.

Don't tell that to the people of Holland.

Or San Francisco for that matter. Some of the "most expensive" land in SF was "reclaimed" from the bay. It seems that we had this event happen in 1849. Some fool discovered gold near Sacramento. All the sailors on The sailing ships tied up to the "embarcadero" jumped ship. Many of those ships never left San Francisco. They just rotted where they stood. Hundreds of them in fact. Eventually, this entire area was filled-in creating all that valuable real estate down around Fisherman's Wharf. Read the whole story here.

And this manufacture of land is still going on.

In my neck of the woods (San Diego) we have a rich tradition of filling in the bay. The entire area bayward from Harbor Drive is all man-made land. The Convention Center, the Marriott and Hyatt Hotels, and SeaPort Village are all on land that didn't use to exist.

Do you think we're done yet? Hell, there's a lot more water out there.

The latest plan is for a major creation of land in an area of the bay just off Chula Vista's J Street Marina. See HERE for all the details. You may even want to participate in this land creation. San Diego Bay is beautiful, a marvel of nature. If you let these guys have their way, it will be even nicer.

See Ann, it;s called "live and learn." I'm sure that when I stayed in Flag last year there was much I didn't realize. I'll come back and have another go at it.

Lane, I saw something about that on TV. Expensive? They can afford it.

Maybe we could take some of that water and bring it to Hemet and then we could have a lake to swim and boat in - we could sure use it right about now.

Now Have a Blessed day,

John, Is that you complaining about the dog days of summer?
What do they say, "if you can't stand the heat stay out of Hemet."
Thanks for stopping by.

How funny. You know in Foster City near San Francisco is built on all fill. I am just waiting for that earthquake to shake it up and watch all that land that was made...disappear. I love the San Diego area. We where there last year for a conference. The weather is wonderful. How is the market doing in your area. I was looking at some ranches...Expensive...

Ken and Linda, Still expensive and likely to become more so. San Disgo has the nicest weather in the country (defined as the most days in the 70s) and is poised for tremendous growth for the next 25 years. People who are waiting for a "better deal" will never see it.

New island forming off the coast of the Big Island (Hawai'i).  It should be ready for market in about 10,000 years... any takers?
