When we lived in San Antonio, we adopted two little girls, Thelma and Louise, they are sisters.  They are  mutts, or as we say our here, they are poi dogs and we love them dearly.

If you have ever been to Texas in the summer time you know how hot it can be.  We were fortunate to have a swimming pool at our house and used it every day in the summer time, after work and all most all day on the weekends.  We had a live oak tree that provided shade over about half the pool.

Thelma, loved the pool.  She would get in and swim for a minute or two and then lay on the top step of the pool so that her body was under water and her head would rest on the lip of the pool.  Louise, hated it and would not go near it. She would lay on the apron of the pool and cry because she would not go in and we would not come out.

One day, I was at the PX and they had a kiddy pool on display.  I bought the pool and brought it home and filled it with water.  Sure enough, Louise loved it and would jump in and splash and chase and finally lay down in it.

When we moved back to Hawaii, we brought the girls with us and of course we brought the kiddy pool.  They have adapted so well to living in Hawaii and they love it here.

Getting the girls into Hawaii without going into quarantine is a story for another blog.

Good Luck, Good Lending, and Aloha

Hi Cynthia -- They are 10 now and they will play in the kiddie pool but they are both afraid of the ocean and will not go in on their own.  If I am in the water Thelma will tiptoe in but run back as soon as a wave breaks.  Louise won't go near the water at all.  Aloha

Hi Bruce,  We once had a golden retriever. We bought him a kiddie pool for the back yard too. He loved it! And it kept him out of the mud holes!  I'd love to see some pics too.

Bruce, Now that sounds like a blog!?

I can't come back to Hawaii again... I came back in 04 and couldn't believe all the cane fields were gone on our way to Grandma's house in Makakilo. I didn't even make it to Waikiki that trip.

San Antonio has sure developed since 04 too, my father lives there. He bought a house outside 1604 near 281 near the big church and Bapist hosptial on the north side, and when he bought it, that was outside the city limits, now he's inside.

HI, Bruce!  I have been looking all over for a hard plastic kiddie pool- no soft on it.  My dog (particularly the bulldog) would have it deflated in a minute's time.  You've inspired me to go back online to locate a pool for Oliver Pudge- it's been brutally hot here in NY.

Hi Lysa --Boy you are so right about the cane fields aree all gone and now pineapple is gone too. Lots of changes.  I know just where you are talking about for your Dad. We lived in the Fairways at Woodlake and loved it there.  Aloha

Hi Laurie -- We have one shaped like a turtle and they love to play in it.  Our temps out here are much more moderate than on the mainland.  As long as the trade winds are blowing it is pretty compfortable out here year round.  Aloha

Hello Bruce: It is 96 in San Antonio today. Drying out after all the recent rains.Still have not yet hit a 100 degrees. What's new, it is the dog days of summer. I bet every dog wishes they had a pool to jump in and cool off. Our lab loves the water so we take him down to Canyon Lake so he can swim. Every afternoon about five o'clock he starts yelping to tell us he is ready for his swim.

Thanks for keeping us posted on Thelma and Louise.

Hi Erica -- Thanks for your comments.  Aloha

Hi Carl -- I am amazed it hasn't hit 100 there yet.  Gee mild summer.   Your lab knowing when it is time to go swimming is great.  I bet there is a blog in there somewhere.  Aloha

We have a lab named Josie and she will not get in our swimming pool. She loves to be out there with us and will drop her tennis ball in the water for us to throw. We thought she was afraid of the water but when we took her to the river she jumped right in.

Hi Vicki --  Try the kiddie pool.  We don't have a pool here in Hawaii but they still enjoy our kiddie pool.  Come to think of it they are just like little kids.  Aloha
