Standard issue maximum speed limit signs do not work. Flashing speed trap signs work on those with a conscience. Police speeding tickets work on so few. So here is my attempt to slow you down...
15 years ago, a small community was so perplexed with the amount of drivers who chose to speed through their neighborhood, that they put up large billboard type signs. It had the desired effect, and greatly reduced the amount of speeders.
Some local towns here, notably Redwood City, have tried street signs like:
'Is today the day your driving hurts a child?'
'Speeding tickets ahead'
or a stylized picture of a judge, lecturing a very chasened person, asking 'what didn't you understand?'
In our area, they use speed cameras and provide a $40 fine if you are 12 mph over the limit. It works and produces a lot of revenue for the county.

Those are great signs....people are so sidetracked these days that they often forget the speed they're going, until they see the flashing lights behind them or until they hit something.
