It Pays to Have the Right Tools....

By
Real Estate Agent with Benefield Realty

I don't know how it became such a thing with me, but I have always been a strong proponent for having the right tools to do a job. Maybe it's because I found out the hard way more times than once how difficult a task can be without having the right tool.

Ever since I have been own my own as a young adult, I began collecting tools. It started out with the basic set of ratchets & wrenches that I could use to keep my car running. Then after becoming a homeowner, my weekly visit to Home Depot would usually culminate with the purchase of some sort of yard tool or something to make repairs/improvements around the house with.

Don't get the wrong impression. I am not a serious home handyman, working on projects all the time, but if the need arises, I am prepared for it. The tools I have collected have saved me lots of time and numerous headaches over the years.

I started thinking about this when I read someones post on active rain complaining about real estate agents being too cheap to invest in an MLS key. I had to agree with her assessment. We have tools in our trade just like carpenters, plumbers, or electircians have in theirs. Would you want a carpenter show up to do a job for you if he did not own a hammer or a saw? The tools may be a little different in our trade, but they are tools of the trade nonetheless. You can make your job easier or very difficult, depending on what you are willing to invest in yourself and your tools.

Be a professional, invest in the tools you need to be successful.

Hi Dan,

I agree. It does pay to have the right "tools". And for service-based industries such as ours part of that tool kit entails an open mind, forward thinking, and flexibility :)
