I took this yesterday from my car as we approached Memorial Bridge, headed from Washington to Virginia.

This statue, cast in bronze, was commissioned in 1925, the design were approved in 1935, and it was finally completed in 1951.  It was one of two statues, "The Art of Peace" by James Earl Fraser.

Traffic slowed down just long enough for me snap one.

Very cool! I wonder why it took so long between commissioning and approving the design? Did they have a lot of beuracracy back in the 20's? :-)

Hi Pat...A familiar sight among many other wonderful ones in our Capitol.  Thanks for the reminder.  I haven't been on that bridge in a number of years now.

Pat, very cool statue. It is certainly impressive, to say the least. Something you wouldn't miss! Took them long enough after it was commissioned to do though, wow!

Interesting to know the history on the statue. I have seen it when I lived up north and never knew.

Lou, there are a bunch of statues around the bridge, and all of them are beautiful.

Colleen, it takes forever to get designs approved, and today they're having a hard time funding new stuff.

Pippa, no!  I was on the passenger side!

Pat,

Sometimes our best shots come from the car when we are able to just snap it at a light. :)
