“August Challenge”  Try Something New-Find a New YOU!

The summer is winding down, last minute vacations are being enjoyed and school is getting ready to start.  But wait!  It’s only the beginning... we’re on our way to a new adventure to “Try Something New and Find a New YOU”! Do you wake up each morning, head to the gym bright and early, yes-with a smile on your face, and move your body to healthiness?  That is fantastic!  Are you in a routine and getting bored, need a little change?  Fabulous!

Our challenge for August is to try something new.  So this is what we all need to do to get started.  Pull out your planner and pick 1 day per week at minimum.  Schedule it as the “New ME Day”.  The time depends on which activity you choose.   Once you schedule it in, commit to it, don’t change your schedule.  Keep this going indefinitely.  It will recharge you and the end result of trying something new?  You’ll find new things to enjoy in your life and find a new YOU!

1. Hiking.  How long has it been since you’ve hiked up a new hill?  There is so much to see and it’s such good exercise.  Take lots of water and a partner.

2. Bike Riding.  Get you a gel seat (so much better for the tush).  Pick a destination, the mountains, the beach, the lake, or wherever your heart desires.  We like to ride as a family and take my little girl to see the horses at the local equestrian center.

3. Marathon.  Have you always wanted to enter into a marathon?  It does take proper training, so get yourself geared up and set that as a goal.  Start with a 5K and move forward. You’ll take pride in your accomplishment.

4. Walk-a-thon.  Take part in a purpose.  Check your local charities. American Diabetes Foundation. American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, etc.  There are so many.  You’ll be walking fit with a cause.  What a great feeling that is.

5. Dancing.  Take a dance class.  My goal this month is to join the Mommy and Me dance class with my little girl.  That should be fun.  I may have two left feet, but I’m up for the challenge.

6. Tai Kwon Do, Karate, or other martial arts.  This is great exercise.  Set up a trial session.  You may just find that you’ll absolutely love it.

7. Tennis or Racquetball.  Take a class or play again if it’s been a while.

8. Rowboat.  Go to the lake and rent a rowboat.  Row across the lake and back.

9. Swimming.  Jump in with a splash and swim laps.  Set a goal for yourself and beat your time.

10.  Destination ME.  Pick a place you want so badly to go.  Hawaii, Europe, The Bahamas, a visit to see Mom and Dad.  How many miles will it take you to get there?  Set a goal to walk, jog, run, bike, or swim that many miles.  When you reach your goal.  Take yourself there.

I like it -- trying something new or just making a change.  I think I am going to do tennis.  Thank you for setting forth the challenge --which new activity are you going to do?

Aziz-Go for it!  You can do it.  And thanks for the encouragement in having me post this blog.  I'm excited to see everybody's response.  My new challenge is going to sign my little girl and I up for the Mommy and Me dance class.  She loves to dance and what a fun way to exercise and be with her.  Can't wait.

Rebecca-Thank you!  I'm glad to offer some inspiration.

Nicole-Happy Birthday!  I hope your day is the best.  Thanks for stopping by my blog and your welcome for the motivation.  We can all motivate each other.

Suzanne-Thank you so much for the feedback.  I'm glad to have inspired you as well and hope to inspire many others.  I can't wait to hear what your new thing will be.  Come back and share.

Debi-You are welcome!  I'm glad you're jumping into the bike ride.  Your family will love it!

Kimberly-Thank you!  I'm glad this was posted at the right time.  Keep me posted on how you do with your challenge.  I like #10 too.  It gives you lots of motivation.  Me and one of my close friends did #10 with the goal of going to see Oprah.  We did meet our goal, but never did make it to see Oprah, darn it.

I think that Salsa would be a lot of fun or some ballroom dancing. We have a place that does lessons in my town. Just need to work it in my schedule but I think it would be worth it.

I took windsurfing lessons last year and haven't had the chance to develop those skills this summer.  But when working out I keep in mind the need to build upper body strength.

Melissa-Salsa or Ballroom dancing.  That sounds fun!  Let me know how it goes. You can do it and it will be worth it for sure.

Larry-Great adventure.  That would take a lot of upper body strength.  Thanks for sharing.

I have been swimming a lot lately and I love it.  I even do different exercises under the water and boy do I feel it once I get out of the water in which I have to sit in the hot tub for a little while...  this is a great post.  I have even been thinking about taking a tennis class but my bad knee is not ready yet...

Nicolette-Thank you for sharing.  I agree with you, swimming works in many ways.  I meet a friend at the gym to swim every Friday.  I love it.  She works with a trainer and has me do the things she has learned.  It is a great workout.  Keep up the inspiration and motivating us to jump in and swim more.

I was wondering have you ever checked out pole danding -- I ask b/c my neighbor has lost over 30 lbs.  She even said she wants a pole for the house.  And this conversation took place at the gym.

Julie...

I am ahead of this game. I started a 'new to me' program a few months back.

I looked down one day and noticed that my arse was starting to look like my chair.

I am working out, walking, using a stepper and a stability ball.

I feel good...Real Good :)

TLW...ROAR!

Aziz-OK that one is funny. I think the only "pole" dancing I'll be doing is in the North Pole because I'd be freezing cold and have to keep my feet moving to keep warm. Thanks for sharing.  I'd say if it's working for your neighbor, sure, she should get a pole in her house.  I wonder how the resale would be on that.  Could you imagine an open house with a pole in it?  I'm sure people would be lined up to give it a try.

TLW-Congrats on that.  You keep us all inspired.  Not only that we all don't want our arse looking like our chairs. lol.

Hi Julie, it's funny that you wrote this post now. I just made a promise to myself to get back into cycling. I have to get out of the gym and get some real world exercise. Have a great weekend...

Julie -- Open House Pole Dancing -- Men allowed!

That maybe an attention getter.  Anyway, how goes the dancing class with you and your daughter?

Aziz-You and that pole dancing.  That cracks me up everytime I see that.  On one of our local news stations they had an interview with a pole dancer.  Wow, was she in shape.  I think you'd have to be in order to do some of those moves.

Me and my daughter with our dancing class? Hasn't happened yet.  I've been dealing with being sick for 3 weeks now. I thought it was food poisoning.  The one good thing, 18 lbs lost.  Not the healthiest of ways though.

Julie - feel better and I hope that its not anything major.  I bet the dancer(local news interviewee) was young too -- I tell ya -- yesterday I went to the gym and wasn't really into it, however, I did it w/o cardio.  Maybe today I'll do cardio!

See  I was just ahead of the pole dancing curve --

Aziz-I'm sorry this took me so long to comment.  I don't know how I missed this.  My health is much better now, thank you very much.  Now I'm excited to get back on track with everything. I tried to find the archive of the pole dancer story to forward onto you.  I couldn't find it.  It was Fox 13 news in the am that it was featured on.  The hysterical thing, is this awesome reporter "Big Budha" is the one who did the interview and even gave the pole dancing a try.  I hope all is well with you and thank you for your support.

A gel seat sounds good both for my bike seat and my horse saddle.  You wouldn't think that people need padding there - I guess we just sit on our bones.

Kathleen-Oh yes, I can see why a gel seat would need to be a horse saddle. It's been a while since I've been horse back riding, but the bottom feels it for days. Thanks for stopping by.
