History Buffs-Fort Vancouver National Site is the Best!

FORT VANCOUVER, CLARK COUNTY, WA

If you've never been to the 366-acre Fort located hear Highway 14 and downtown Vancouver...you're missing a ton of fun and history.
They have a great calendar of a variety of things that are educational and really amazing. One of our family's favorite events is the Candle Light tour of the Fort and all the buildings that made the area hum. (It used to be called the Candle Light tour, now it's known as the Fort Vancouver Lantern Tours.) Docents dress in period clothing and act out the different shop owners and building activities of that era.

Fort Vancouver was established in 1825 and was used as the Pacific Northwest center of trade and protection. The major item for trade was furs. Located on the grounds is a national park, a premier archaeological site, the region's first military post, an international fur trade emporium, the country's oldest  operating airfield and a waterfront trail and environmental center situated on the banks of the Columbia River.
