I WISH I had known to have these when I first started in real estate * NEWBIES take note!
1) Loads of cheap pens * I used to buy cheap pens in bulk and they never lasted and were easily lost. I need them at my home, at my office, in my car and in my property presentation folder. I know I spent hundred$ of dollar$ over my career buying these pens.
NOW, I get FREE pens from SirSpeedy when I have my printing done. I have actually managed to keep them AND have run several out of ink! I don't know where they get them, I just know I always take one when I leave with my printing order. Unfortunately, they only come with BLACK ink so I also have a GOOD Mont Blanc pen with BLUE ink that I have managed to retain for over 5 years!
2) Loads of note pads * again, I used to buy these at Office Depot and have them at my home, office and car. Originally, I would use the back of the phone messages, discarded envelopes or business cards; however, NOW I want smaller size note taking capability so I AGAIN am getting my note pads FREE from SirSpeedy. I have them on my office conference table, by my home laptop computer * perfect for jotting blog subjects * and at work at my desk. I also have card stock 3x5 printed note paper from Levenger with my name, phone and e-mail address. I use them to provide to prospects if I run out of business cards AND they are perfect for jotting notes and slipping them onto my steering wheel as a reminder!
3) Toilet paper * This may appear silly; however, if you have ever been in a vacant property miles from a public restroom and the bathroom has no toilet paper, you KNOW what I mean. I keep them to stock vacant home listings as it is RARELY thought of in the move-in process and is certainly useful during the showing process.
4) Key tags * I have learned to have a clear plastic presentation envelope when I meet prospects so that I can keep MY important paperwork paperwork and KEYS together. Having the adhesive tags to place on keys for DEALBOLT * LOCKSET * STORAGE * often saves a second or third trip to the property to mark them. I have graduated to having my own imprinted key tags made by Sanzo; however, I still check the keys and affix the labels to keep them straight.
5) Band Aids * There is not a week that goes by that I do not need a band aid "on the job"....usually a manfunctioning mechanical device like a fluid master or turning a stuck valve * I get scratched and nicked. NOT BLEEDING on my clothes and car is a good idea. Newer band aids actually come with antibiotic in them....and YES, they have NASCAR band aids.
NOW...I do not leave my home without these items....I wish I had not taken so long to learn about needing them * the hard way~
