My Realtor Association Is Using My Active Rain Blog For Beta Testing...

Houston Association of Realtors, better known as HAR is the countries largest association with over 27,000 members. The technology is superior and the web presence is astounding.

har

A couple of years ago HAR unveiled Houston Blogosphere.  Currently our association members can blog, index their posts and categorize them under dozens of different subjects like Open Houses, Marketing, selling tips and more.

For the last year or so I had my HAR blog pointing to my Active Rain blog. That meant that I would have to type a blog on HAR.com if I wanted my local consumers see to see that particular post on HAR. It wasn't until today that HAR allowed my blog (here on Active Rain) to point BACK to HAR. My posts are now automatically synced in both directions. I'm only the second member to HAR to be doing this. Check out how it looks on HAR.

This is significant because the web traffic on HAR is insane....

April 2010 Web Statistics

Hits For Entire Site 1,729,596,128
Page Views (Impressions) 73,388,076
Visitor Sessions 5,038,647
Unique Visitors 1,346,634
Average Visit Time On Site 00:08:53 Minutes
Times Listing Viewed 13,336,994 Detail Pages

Currently there are over 17,000 Realtors in Houston and only 1,193 of them are Active Rain members. According to HAR 6,820 posts have been generated. That isn't very much considering Active Rain has over a million. I suspect the popularity of blogging in Houston will eventually catch on. I'm still surprised at the low level of blogging in Houston considering the popularity of our associations website and it's vast web presence.

I'm really excited and am hoping more HAR members will utilize Active Rain to work with HAR. It's just in Beta testing now so they likely won't add anymore members to this trial until all the kinks are worked out.

See you in the Rain!

Those are some insane numbers! Good for you to be one of the Realtors in your area who get the importance of blogging. And great job by HAR to get it too.

Greg,

Most people mistakenly believe that to blog requires you to have something to say. Sadly if they'd only read a little they'd know better, witch of course puts off more people.

It's a sorbbering and vicious circle! AR makes informantion savable, but readers still have to work to find what they seek.

Good luck with HAR it sounds like a great improvement.

Very Cool Greg It is nice to have a progressive board, that understands duplicating your work, is more work than necessary.

Maybe you should get paid for driving hits to their website!  Or, is there a way for the public to subscribe to your blog without having to go through HAR each time?  Good luck.

Hi Greg... I wish our local Board would adopt this program.  HAR sounds like they have it all together.

HAR also gave the blogs to members for FREE!!! (my favorite 4-letter word)... and set up online tutorials, and have AWESOME support techies who call you RIGHT BACK, and are very responsive to member suggestions .. quite a few innovations have been implemented since the beginning. We don't, however, at this time have any significant amount of cross-talking and dialoging between bloggers, but new interfaces are on the way --- can't wait to see how that will work!
