Sitting by the side of the road, drooling.
YEAH, YEAH, MORE COPYRIGHT "STUFF" FROM LENN by way of ALAN MAY.
Actually, this little jewel is from Alan May and it's priceless. This is also pithy and I do love pithy.
For the record, my attorney just sent my Affidavit to "the Judge" on one of my copyright actions against a real estate agent in Northern Virginia who took, not only my Fairfax County map, he took an entire page of content from one of my web sites whic coincidentally contained a photo of my home.
You gotta love the irony. I love irony almost as much as pithy.
I have a judgment and am just waiting for the award. The judgment is statutory since the map was registered with the U.S. Copyright Office long ago. Statutory damages for this violation is up to $30,000 for each use, we're seeking $50,000, because the violation was willful.
That's a lot of real estate commissions.

A recent set of featured posts bandied about the notion as to whether protecting the copyrights on your photographs (yes, those fugly ones that you put in the MLS) was your right, or simply selfish and at the cost of your community at large.
Philanthropists Respectful Hoarders
I was truly (truly!) surprised to hear a well-known and respected real estate agent espousing the beliefs that you should just open up your internet library and allow other agents to pick at it's carcass for the good of your village, city, town, community.
And what was even more surprising was, that there were many who were willing to jump on the bandwagon... and said... yeah, that's right... for the good of the community... some even put down their torches and pitchforks to write a few lines of commentary supporting the belief.
In today's day and age, to find someone expounding on the idea that "if you deign to protect your copyright, you're being selfish and thoughtless" just caused my jaw to drop. (and for those of you who know me, I didn't do so silently, as I let my voice be heard on both the pro and con sides of the argument.).
I'm still kinda sitting on the side of the road, staring into the void, slack-jawed after the collision, mumbling quietly to myself... "Seriously??? Seriously???... what just happened".
Which side of the road were you on... did you get the license plate of the truck that hit me?
Oh, well... I'll think about that tomorrow.
