Realtor® or Zookeeper?

Sometimes I wonder if I'm a Realtor® or a zookeeper!

I showed a house last week to a newly-wed couple, some first-time homebuyers looking with their father at some starter homes. As we approached the house, we commented on the curb appeal: it looked very cute, like a grandmother's house. Soon, we'd learn that the house came with some of Granny's friends.

As I unlocked the door, a cat came sashaying out of nowhere and brushed past our legs and inside the house before us. We went in after it cautiously, surprised by the cat and hoping he was friendly. I followed him (or her) around to the kitchen where he plopped down on the tile and began to spread out, as if ready for a nap.

"I think this house comes with the cat," my buyer laughed.

I was able to get the cat out, but then as we continued our tour, there was an odd greenhouse attached to the house full of exotic plants and, apparently, some birds. I guess they built nests in there after (or during) the previous owner's stay. The birds chirped at us until we left.

Needless to say, we had our fair share of the animal kingdom on that showing. The buyers are considering their other options.

Bradley, I have shown some houses with some crazy exotic animals in them.  It is hard not to spend all your time looking at the animals rather than the house.

Exactly. And we felt bad for the cat, especially, because it seemed as if his owner either died or left him there. It seemed like it was his home.
