The new ActiveRain category updates gave me a little idea.  This post has been sitting in my Writely.com account until Christine Forgione's post today helped me to realize where I want to go with it.

Many of you are familiar with Blog Carnivals.  For those of you who are new to Blog Carnivals read this.

ActiveRain is proud to have the only husband and wife winners of the Carnival of Real EstateThe Lovely Wife and Broker Bryant.  We also have had many Rainers make the top 10 in the weekly carnival.  Matt and Caleb have encouraged our participation in the Carnival of Real Estate.

Still, most of us have not participated in a carnival. To encourage participation, this week I am going to host a Carnival that is only open to members of ActiveRain.  I would like this first edition of the Carnival of ActiveRain to be open to those who have never had their post mentioned in a blog carnival.  If you've won or gotten in the top 10 before, please help out by encouraging others to enter the Inaugural Edition of the Carnival of ActiveRain.

Winners, I promise you bragging rights, something impressive to add to your listing presentations or resume, and a little bit of clean fun.

Here are the rules:

  1. Only open to ActiveRain bloggers
  2. Deadline for entry is November 1st at midnight EST.
  3. All entries must be originally written and posted between October 20th, 2006 and November 1, 2006.  Older posts are not eligible.
  4. Only one entry per member.  Multiple entries will disqualify the entrant.
  5. This carnival is limited to ActiveRain members who have never been a finalist or won the Carnival of Real Estate.
  6. One award will be made for each of the following categories.
  7. Clarification:  Post your entry first on ActiveRain on your blog.  Then go to submit it at the Carnival link at the end of this post.
Categories this week are:
  • ActiveRain Community
  • Industry News
  • Tips, Tricks and Advice
  • Real Estate Opinions
  • Off topic, humor, etc
  • Finance/Mortgages

And here is the official guidelines on the categories, if you are unsure.

Our category hosts for this round:

Mary McKnight has graciously agreed to host Tips, Tricks and Advice

Brian Brady has graciously agreed to host Finance/Mortgages

Jay Thompson has graciously agreed to host Industry News

Maureen Francis has graciously agreed to host ActiveRain Community

Colleen Kulikowski has graciously agreed to host Real Estate Opinions

The Real Estate Tomato has graciously agreed to host Off Topic, humor, etc

(Thanks, hosts, for volunteering!)

Submit your articles here (Yep, that's how you would submit to the Carnival of Real Estate)  If you have trouble with the submission, you may sent it to activerain(at)gmail.com.  Please include your category.

So, don't be shy.  Send in your submission.

Can't wait to see all the great entries you guys will come up with. Thanks for selecting me to host a section, Maureen!  I feel very honored.  As an added bonus for the post that wins the Tips, Tricks and Advice section - I will place a link on the RSS Pieces site and write a bpost about the winner to drive traffic back to their blog!

Cool Mary!

Jay Thompson is going to do the same thing.  So will I.

Colleen

I sent out some invitations last night when I put up this post.  So I think I am set for this month.  If it works out, we can do one every 2 weeks or something.  I would be delighted if you would do a category on the next one.  Someone else just contacted me off-list, so it looks like we could have some good interest.

Roberta

I am glad you like it.

Tony

Study up.  I would love it if you would send us and article for the panel to feature.

Just had a call from a carnival entrant that helped me to understand that the entry process might not be completely clear, so I made an addition above.

Post your entry first on ActiveRain on your blog.  Then go to submit it at the Carnival link at the end of this post.

Another question: Either my title is too long or the submission page isn't working. Which is it? Since this is my first Carnival I'm not sure if it's me or them!

Gena, it worked when I just did it.  Are you submitting the link to the article?

Say, for example, that you were submitting your article on New Innovative Real Estate Sales Techniques, you would click on that article and then copy and paste the url with the web address from the address bar.  Is that what you were doing?

I don't want you to get frustrated by it, so if it doesn't work next time, then just email it to me and make sure you say which category you want.

Thanks for trying.  I am glad you are participating!

Wouldn't you know it...when the Dr. comes, everything works just fine...

I tried to do the short cut for the URL and it seems that the URL is cutting off the name of the blog. When I tried putting it in the url place, it didn't like it and so I tried on the permalink and it didn't like that either. Kinda stuck.

I emailed it to you...

Maureen, You come up with the most creative, best ideas for the community.  This little exercise should pull the community together, encourage the new folks to throw their hat into the ring.

Just when I thought I would be reading about everybody's listings from coast to coast, you saved the day...thanks!

KK, I am simply delighted that you like it.  And I am even more delighted that you will be a co-host for the Inaugural Edition.  We already have people lining up for the next round.  Should be fun.

First time reading about it. I will have to take the time to find out more details. In the mean time, if you need another volunteer, I'm available.

Joyce - not much to blog about in the Arizona market? Well, it doesn't have to be limited to Arizona. The sky's pretty much the limit.

But I think there is plenty to blog about in AZ. We're in one of the most rapidly changing markets in the country. There are some *very* active Arizona real estate blogs out there. Read some of them for some ideas.

There's the best one :) (Hey, I can be a little biased! I blog on AR too sometimes

There's BloodhoundBlog

and MOCO Real Estate

and AZ Real Estate Notebook

Jonathan Dalton on your side of town blogs here on AR and on his "outside" blog.

And there are many many more... The great thing about blogging and real estate is that virtually anything fits in!!

There are members who've won that I did not invite, but it wasn't a slight on them.  I bet there are at least 20 members who have been in the top 10.  If I had tried to mention them all, I would have missed one and hurt some feelings.  There were also members who chose not to be judges.  We can do this more than once.

Interesting.  So if I understand this, you write an article and include links to other supporting or contrary published articles or blogs.  Will think about it

Maureen, thank you. How do we or can we view the entries? Since I've never done a Carnival, I'm really not familiar with the website and don't see anyway to read them, but I'm sure I'm over looking something very obvious.

Gena,

You don't see the entrants.  You just see the results when it is done.  Nobody knows who enterred accept the host and the entrant.

Michael

You just write an article.  You don't include links to other similar posts, unless they are something that would would naturally be in your post.

Maureen, I think Scott is lost on the wrong blog. AR had a contest a while back about, I think, "what AR has done for you". Colleen had won this contest. It would of been nice if he came back and clarified.

MF: Looking at the categories if I wanted to write a trashy,  tabloid tall tale about real estate what category would that fall into? Tips, Tricks and Advice?  Or would it be Real Estate Opinions if you are sharing your opinions that the other agent is incompetant?  That the seller is stupid?  That your client is a chump? is that a real estate opinion?  Just wondering...

Scott,  A judge dropped out due to a scheduling conflict and the spot was filled by the first person who volunteered.  Colleen was very gracious about it.  She and I had already planned something cool for next month when I asked her if she was available to help me this month.
