How Do You Select Someone to Represent You?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Envelope Real Estate Brokerage Inc

How do you select someone to represent you? How do you go about in selecting a lawyer, an insurance person, a doctor, a mechanic or a real estate person to sell your home or help you purchase one?As a real estate broker of record I ask that question not only of my clients but of others who are represented by someone else.

I used to think that asking why would be quite obvious but to my dismay it was not. I am not qualified to analyze the whys of people as logic does not correlate.

There are articles galore on how to select someone, (Top 10 tips, Top 10 reasons, Top 10  things to ask, etc) and those articles may help with the why, but not the how.

Is it by referral, marketing, dart throwing, guess work or by chance? My experience with the 100's of answers I have received from those who were more than satisfied with their choice was that they chose from the first person they came in contact with!

That's like flipping a coin! How would you know what good or bad was? Excellent work or good work? Excellent service or good service?

Do you marry the first boy or girl you meet? Do you accept the first offer? The first price?

How do you select someone?

Or, they have offices all across North America so they must be good! I can answer that because when I first got into real estate I was with the largest franchisor in the world and you know what Ollie? There were some excellent and some extremely poor ones in each office!
