Life of a Notary Signing Agent..."Sitting on a Spring" in a "hurry up and wait" world.

Yes.  That is what I'm doing.  I'm SITTING ON A SPRING [and ready to bounce in whatever direction I need to across Southern California].  Not less than four escrow/loan/inspection companies have each requested my services for today.  I have one 3PM appointment scheduled but these other folks are all in the running to fill up the early part of my day.  Since I book such requests on a first-come-first-served basis, they all have a fair shot at it.  Mortgage Brokers are all losing their minds waiting for lenders to send docs so that Escrow Officers can package docs and then I can schedule and sign those docs.  Why losing their minds?  Because end-of-month is upon us and with a holiday Monday approaching, they must close today or tomorrow to fund and record on Friday or risk not earning until next month (imagine!).

Since entering this profession, I've marveled at this process that seems to stay the same.  Why the panic?  More importantly, why can't docs begin to emerge earlier in the month?  Why should it matter when a deal closes?  Shouldn't they just be happening all month long?  I've often had brokers offer huge sums of money as insurance that their deal will sign on that last day of the month [that it can]...it's just plain crazy!

Every Notary Signing Agent knows about this craziness.  It happens every month.  Sometimes the phone doesn't ring at all during week one or two of the month.  Then the groundswell begins and hits that crazy fever-pitch about 4 business days before the end of the month.

...and me?  I'd just rather be busy all the time!
