Tip of the Day - Thankful Thursday May 27, 2010

By
Real Estate Agent with Better Homes and Gardens Rand Realty

It is Thankful Thursday and I am back to thank all the people who have helped me during my development as a blogger.  ActiveRain members are the best most responsive group of people around and I love this community.  Being here with you has given me the wings to fly off into other areas and my new blog that relates to my "other" life is up and running now.   If you have time stop by and visit it.

I am also thankful that I am finding energy and purpose again in my world.  We are all facing difficult times.  From what I can see there are some great improvements in some of my friends real estate business but many of us are struggling to make ends meet.  I was to the point of throwing in the towel myself on many occasions.  The stress of this chosen path can be overwhelming but I think that by adding joy in other areas of my life I am going to be able to deal with the real estate stress better.

I have been thinking about a series on ways to deal with the stresses and disappointments so that the joys we got involved in this business for in the first place can shine through the gloom.  I will be posting these stress breaking ideas though the weekend so check back for some ideas to help you de-stress.  Taking the pressure off can make you more money.

Tip for today:  Don't take an overpriced listing!
That one listing will take more energy and cause you more grief than ten reasonably priced listings.

Firing clients is my favorite sport. . .I must admit that.

It is like a self-inflicted applied pressure that becomes harder and harder to withstand. . and then you release it and have this aura of high positive energy that makes you a junkie.. and always in the look out for the next one to come

End result. .

Last year was my second best year ever. . but the best part.  I only worked with happy people.

I'm happy that Paddy is back!

Hi Paddy,

Looking forward to your future posts - the stresses of real estate sometimes do outweigh the rewards but I am sure it makes us better agents as we move through this recession.

Paddy:  Not taking an overpriced listing is truly great advice.  Remember a listing starts to cost us money the minute we take it.  Another rule I'm following this year which has helped tremendously:  Never take a short sale listing unless the seller is 110% on board and  willing to work HARD to get the job done.  A short sale with an uncooperative seller will drain your energy and dominate your business with negative results.  They have to want our help and be willing to partner with us.  I'm thinking positive thoughts for you and may the law of attraction send great clients your way!

Paddy, I too missed you. Enjoy so much hearing about the other side of the continent.

Last week I had a situation that was one of my most stressful in RE for several reasons. I am asking-why was this so stressful and how can I avoid it in the future- because stress isn't fun.

Paddy - simply stated, that is the #1 reason that I do not have a large number of listings. I like them to sell and over priced listings do not sell.

Good Idea Lorraine.  Sending positivity back atcha

I will try to make my presence known once again  Deanne I missed you too.

Me too Mike.  I was speaking with someone from my office who was saying he had more listings than he had ever had and he could not keep up with them.  Most are overpriced and I asked him if he minded me making a comment.  He said go ahead and I said getting a listing is not the prize selling it is.  We get 0 dollars until that happens.

Paddy: We would not pour battery acid down our throat, then why would we take an over priced listing and get the same caustic sensation!

I agree with you on doing that!  I find it strange that there are those that can argue taking them, to get exposure...  I would think it would be nagative in so many ways!

Hi Paddy, First, I like thjis post. Second, went to your new blog...I use to be a Mary Kay Consultant when I lived in Mclean VA.  I lasted about two years, but did love the product.  My girlfriend stayed with MaryKay about 10 years...had the pink car and all...good luck!
