Gettysburg Battlefield - Landscapes and Emotion

In observance of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday, I will be posting a daily feature on the Gettysburg Battlefield. I wanted to start with something that captures the emotion that one feels when touring the battlefield, yes the Gettysburg National Military Park is beautiful, but there is no denying the raw emotion that one feels as well. My goal in this exercise was to capture some of that emotion through the landscapes of the Gettysburg Battlefield, as well as though the faces of the various sculptures that dot that landscape. I have never thought of the Gettysburg National Military Park as a vacation  place, but rather a place of great solemness, sadness, and emotion. A very powerful place for lack of a better word. I hope that comes across and that when viewing you can get a sense of that feel.

Great tribute Gerry, very well done. We have no idea, do we, what those people went through. Beautiful sculptures, the artist caught the pained expressions of the men, that are now 'Gone with the Wind".

Gerry....What a beautiful experience for my night; not only did you spend hours on editing, but you captured the essence of those men who fought for the United part of the USA.  You also brought to mind my Great-Great grandfather--John Henry Heisey. b. 1837--enlisted in Co. G 5th Infantry 20 April 1861, injured & out  25 July 1861; enlisted 21 Sept. 1861 Co A 93rd Infantry --discharge / injury 17 January 1863: enlisted 14 August 1864 Co. H 12th Cavalry -discharge 1 June 1865.  So Proud to count him a close relative. My Dad Richard E. Heisey would tell the tale of the family about John Henry "he walked through two enlistments & came out at the end riding on a Horse until June 1865"  Do not know if he was at Gettysburg, but the family was all from the Lebanon, PA.
So, thank you for this tribute from all my family--both living & dead.  I just bet that John Henry was watching your video right along with my Dad,& his Father George Britton.
Have a wonderful Memorial Day--you have totally focused my day.

Gerry, I enjoyed that very much!  I am a huge history buff so I love anything historical.  What a moving tribute thank you for sharing with us and what a reminder for Memorial Day.  What program did you use for the slide show it is a great presentation!

Happy Memorial Day, Marilyn (and that would be the Confederate Southern Gal!)

So awesome Gerry.  I actually visited here when I was little.  Even though I was young I still instinctively knew something very serious had happened there.  Thanks for posting this.  Powerful.

Never been, but the video captures the emotion and yet I'm sure only scratches the surface of the feelings those 'in real' have experienced.
