Ooh....love this idea! Ok, my favorite hotel is in Venice (Italy) called the Saturnia http://www.hotelsaturnia.it/ Walking distance to St. Mark's Square and great service. Nice full breakfast with meats and eggs plus continental included and served in an atrium. But the concierge is the best. I get there every 2-4 years and they always have the same people working there who remember us each time...we are rather funny (I go with my mom) but still....they can remember incidents from previous trips, so that's a skill. Love it.

Karen - One of my favorite hotels in the world is the Londra Palace, also in Venice, overlooking the Grand Canal.

BTW: I checked out the Saturnia website .... it looks awesome!

I'd humbly offer the Oberoi for anyone considering Lombok, Indonesia. An amazing experience in paradise.

Stewart - great to talk with you again today. Looking forward to a face-to-face someitme soon. We are only 2 hours apart!

I think this is a great idea. I have had some great hotel stays locally as well as abroad.

In LA the Four Seasons treated us VERY well (our Four Seasons here in Carlbsad is terrific, but alas they are being replaced in June by Park Hyatt). Also Shutters in Santa Monica and L'Hermitage in Beverly Hills.

Will have to look up the places we stayed in Italy and in Paris. And there was a fabulous B and B near the ocean in Brazil that we thoroughly enjoyed.

Mountain Home Inn on Route 1 in Marin County north of SFO near Mt. Tamalpais is a winner - fabulous views.

Philip - I've never been to Indonesia .... but your recommendation of The Oberoi looks great!

Jeff - Great chattting to you too.

I also like The Four Seasons Hotels .... but I think they're losing their edge.

BTW: Did you know they now own the Beverly Wilshire Hotel which was formerly the Regent Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills.

Steve - I look forward to reading your posts about your travels and recommendations!
