Ed Rybczynski this weekend posted two blog entries regarding outsourcing title search work offshore. I am not competent to judge the quality of this work, or the legality of this work, but I feel I have a right to state my opinon about outsourcing in general.
Outsourcing is good for the short and long term economies of the nation to whom the jobs are sent. Jobs are provided to local populations.
Outsourcing is good for the short term profits of the corporations sending jobs away. After all, they get cheap labor. Since the companies Ed has referred to are US real estate related companies I feel it is short sighted to say the least. The off-shore employees will never buy homes in America, never need title insurance on those homes, never pay property tax on the homes they did not buy here.
Outsourcing is bad for the country losing the jobs. Tax revenues decline, consumer hard and soft spending declines, good jobs for our citizens are lost. A case in point, I was bragging about my grandson, telling a Phd. engineer for Motorola that he might be bright enough to become an engineer. He said "I hope he becomes a civil engineer, they can outsource the rest of them".
We have seen a lot of outsourcing over the last several years. Can anyone say your customer service experience is better because of it? I think not.
NAR says "Under all is the land" but who will be left to buy it? Maybe you could ask the people who used to work in shoe factories in New England. Car Factories in Detroit. Merchant Marine officers and crew.
Think about it folks, how will you stand?

This post rates a 5 in my opinion. As adults, we need to take a stand on important issues. This nation's unemployment rate is as important an issue as I can think of.
