MUST DO: CrossFit Training for a Healthier Lifestyle, Pearland CrossFit @ Memorial Park
I want to get fit! I want more energy! I want to be healthier. Am I insane? Yes I am.
Since the weather has been unbelievably great, I have been working out at Memorial Park in Houston instead of 24 hour gym. One morning after completing one loop (3 miles) at a generally leisurely pace, I saw some people over at the stretching area who were huffing and puffing and obviously pushing their physical boundaries. I saw a collection of kettle bells, jump ropes and large barbell plates. They seemed in good shape. And then a few minutes later their workout was complete.
I spoke with the organizer of CrossFit Shawn McDonald who is staff attorney at Texas Southern University. He is opening a CrossFit in Pearland and was taking his crew to workout in the mornings at Memorial Park. I was intrigued by the idea of being in the best shape of your life, training like Olympic athletes, the SWAT team and Navy Seals, getting done in 15 minutes or less and feeling great (of course, much later after the workout!).
So guess what I did. I am trying it out.. No I am definitely doing the training.
Day 1 (yesterday): 400m run; 20 pushups; 20 situps; 20 squats; repeat 3x ... cool down 50 lunges. Done: 10min24sec
Day 2 (today): 400m run; 20 kettle bell (25#) lifts; 20 lunges with 25# barbell plate overhead; 20 box jumps; rinse and repeat 3x ... cool down (lay flat on the floor); Done: 13min29sec
I am feeling a tremendous surge in energy throughout the day. I highly recommend it. Come out at try CrossFit Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri at 6AM or 6:30AM at the stretching area by the tennis center.

Here's an interesting fact .. the workouts that have male names are named after fallen war veterans. They decided to honor those who have fallen in combat to remember their memory dedicating a workout after them.
A CrossFit member Ben talked about how one day a very large muscular SWAT captain was training with their crew at the park and spied at the CrossFit team that was working out there. He walked over there and asked .. "Hey are you guys doing 'Fran?'" "Yup." So the SWAT team decided to join the CrossFit for a group session of 'Fran'! Of course it was very challenging.
If you want to know why they call some workouts after women, come out talk to Shawn or Ben to find out the answer.
