Portland Neighborhoods

There was a recent Trulia post from a first time buyer wanting to know what Portland Neighborhoods are the best for family growth.  Portland Neightborhoods are unique.  As unique as . . . the buyers' needs, lifestyles and interests.

I found it interesting that some agents rendering advice were actually plugging their favorite Portland Neighborhoods.  All well and good.

But . . . did they know the buyers?!?

While I love answering questions -- 'cause it makes me think I actually know something -- there are some questions that I can't answer right away.

Because I'm a good agent {toot, toot of horn} I have to "diagnose" each and every buyers' personal requirements.

When answering a question about Portland Neighborhoods, I would like to know:

  • Price range -- What would the home owner feel comfortable in paying each month, and what can they afford to pay comfortably each month?  Without the price ranges, it's hard to put square pegs in round holes.  There are some GREAT Portland Neighborhoods, in all price ranges.  Determining what can be purchased in important.
  • Availability -- Neighborhoods may have a home in your price range currently active . . . or may not.  Don't focus one or two Portland Neighborhoods, try to see what your money can buy and where!
  • Schools -- How important is this to the mix?  The question posed mention "best for family growth" so perhaps schools would be important to consider.
  • Condition of property -- this can be mixed in with price, but overall condition is important if the buyer(s) want turn-key.  Depending on the amount of work (TLC) to be done, how comfortable is the buyer with properties that may take some TLC, ELBOW GREASE or downright SWEAT EQUITY.

Without sounding like an idiot, I just couldn't answer the question directly.  My experience tells me that there's more to Portland Neighboorhoods, and recommendations than meets the eye!

I did offer a one-hour consultation to go over the buying process in order to find out a little more.  I sure hope they contact me!  I'd love to recommend Portland Neighborhoods.  As long as I know what the buyer(s) wants and needs are, price ranges, comfort levels . . . I LOVE to recommend Portland Neighborhoods, but more importantly, show properties in those Portland Neighborhoods -- that's my job!

EXCELLENT points and simple cut-to-the-chase blog title Carla!  As a buyer's agent you will more than likely know more about a neighborhood than a listing agent because you will have seen more quantity of homes block for block, the conditions, the mindset, the pride of ownership, etc.

Good for you, Carla.  That's what a good agent does.  Some of the reactions on Trulia are knee-jerk, so I am sure the buyer appreciates someone who takes the time to find out what they really mean by Portland Neighborhoods.

Hi Andi . . . hey, that's a post in, and of, itself!!  The listing agent "farms" a very specific locale (for the most part).

Hey Jane -- Some are, rather, knee-jerk!  And truly, we've got to find out a little more to have it all makes cents sense
