It seems there's a new Meme making the rounds on Active Rain!
Carole Cohen appears to have started it - Maureen McCabe was tagged, and she in turn tagged me. Other book memes I've read are Missy Caulk's, Sarah Cooper's, Jay and Jack's, Read more in the Book Meme Group.
So here goes my list of five of my favorite books (or series of books!)!
I don't know if these are my five ALL-TIME favorites, but they surely are favorites of mine for now and for some time:
"I Love You, Ronnie" - The Love Letters of Ronald Reagan to Nancy Reagan. I love this book and love reading it. I just pick this book up every once in awhile and get entranced just thumbing through it. I love looking at the pictures included in the book, and reading the copies of the handwritten notes Ronald Reagan would write to Nancy Reagan. What a marvelous love these 2 shared, and I just love reading of their love for each other in these very tender, touching and beautifully poignant love letters.
Margaret Truman's "Capitol Crimes" series. I devoured every one of her books in this series. Each time I got a new one, I could barely put it down. I've re-read several of them, they're so good. I believe there are 19 books in this series, some of which are: "Murder in the White House", "Murder in the Smithsonian", "Murder on Capitol Hill", "Murder on Embassy Row". I've just started "Murder at Ford's Theatre", and this is going to be just as good as all the others before. I would prowl the bookstore sites looking for the next book she wrote in this series, and just had to have the new one each time a new one came out. Hooked!
James Patterson's books - I love all of his books, again murder and crime thrillers. In some of his books, he has a character named Alex Cross, and I especially love that series of thrillers. I find his books non-stop intrigue, and another set of books that I get totally engrossed in and can't put down. Some of his books are: "Cradle and All", "Season of the Machete". "Kiss The Girls", "Along Came a Spider", "Hide and Seek", "Jack and Jill". If you like thrillers, you'll enjoy his books.
"Robert Frost Seasons"; "Robert Frost - A Tribute to the Source"; and "Robert Frost Country". Robert Frost poetry is one of my all-time favorites. I have several books that are Robert Frost poetry accompanied by stunning photography. Sometimes I'll just pick these books up and slowly page through them, savoring the poetry and getting lost in the pictures used to highlight his poems. If you haven't read any Robert Frost poetry, it is so beautiful to read, even more beautiful when you see the gorgeous photography that accompanies his poems in the 3 books I mentioned. I was a Frost fan long before I ever laid eyes on these books, but when I saw these books, I had to have each one. I used a Robert Frost poem at my State President Installation - "The Road Not Taken" - about choices and taking a slightly different route (the road less travelled) and how that can make all the difference in the world.
"Off the Beaten Path" series of books about each state. I love to explore different areas when we travel, and I always buy this book for whatever state we're going to be travelling to. "New Hampshire Off the Beaten Path" in my home is a very well-used book. We also have "Maine Off the Beaten Path", "Vermont off the Beaten Path", and the other New England states as well. We never go anywhere for a road trip that I don't have my canvas travel bag with my travel books in there. We love finding hidden places, and these "Off the Beaten Path" series are just the best for finding hidden gems right there in your own home state. If you love to explore, check out these books - I know you'll find some tucked-away special places right in your own backyard that you didn't even know about!
So there you have it - five books, or series of books, that I really love and have enjoyed reading. I have so many other books that I love - I have some gorgeous Victorian Treasures books with the most exquisite pictures in them you could ever want to see. I have a collection of books on antiques of all kinds, a collection of old cookbooks (not sure why since I don't cook too much but I love looking at them).
I also have a decent collection of the old Nancy Drew books - some belonged to my grandmother, to my mom, my mom's sister, to a client of mine, and some I bought myself when I was much younger. I have many books - I seem to be drawn to books. I love the beautiful covers of many old books, and I have plenty of new books as well, books of all kinds. They must just speak to me as I keep buying more and more...... Tom Clancy, James Michener, Barbara Taylor Bradford. I loved the "Shell Seekers"......
It's now MY turn to tag some people!! I tag Ines Hegedus-Garcia, Mariana Wagner, Monika McGillicuddy, Jim Lee, Nicky Mississippi, and Lisa Hammerstein. Don't forget to post your links here to your Meme's and to include them in the Meme Group, too.
Have fun, and I look forward to reading more Book Memes!!
