A Picture or a Photograph...

A Picture or a Photograph...

...what is the difference? Or is there? Anyone who reads my blogs knows that photography is my passion. Given an interesting subject, I can easily get into my right mind and start wandering behind the pixels.
I marvel at an artist's abilities to put images on canvas. There is a special place in their mind where time and form intertwine. Form becomes everything and time just is.
Granted. A massive field of flowers is something that most folks would want to take a picture of. Only someone in their "right mind" would spend an hour looking for the right subject to photograph...

There's something about Sunflowers that reminds me of my dad, sunshine and happiness.  I think that great photos like these pass over into the world of fine art!

Having been a professional photographer for 12 years, I was really burnt out on the idea of photography. Reading your blogs and seeing your posts has encouraged me to start shooting for Fun again. Thank you for that.

I help brokers build businesses they love.

I like the idea of slowing down for anything these days...and in your case it produces beautiful art!

Hi Michael - Though it's not all black and white (ha ha), a photograph usually has some thought and intent put into it. Form, perspective, composition, light/shadow/color all go into the artistic side, and then it's a matter of having the skill to accurately capture the vision.

Michael, the photos above do catch the imagination.  Your passion for photography shows.  I also need to say that I agree with everything Andrew said in the first comment.

Some people take photography to an art form.  For myself, I've found myself lost behind the lens and wondering how I got to certain places while trying to take the perfect photo.

Hi Michael!  You truly do have a talent for photography and I guess that it does take a passion for the 'artwork' behind the lens to be as successful as you are at it.

I love the right mind comment--I'm left handed and always proclaim to be in my 'right mind!'  LOL

Enjoy your Memorial Day...

That sunflower photo is amazing! I actually am an artist (3 years of lessons... watercolor, pen and ink-stippling and hatching, pastels, and general sketching) so obviously I graviate toward photos as well. Unfortunately, I don't have the equipment necessary to take REALLY good photos! I'm just waiting for a few good sales. I impatiently wait for the day I have a kick-butt zoom lens. Then, look out world! =D

Michael:

These could be photographs or paintings, but they are definitely works of art.  That is the quality that distinguishes a great photographer from a mediocre one.

Michael, What a great photo of the field of flowers - but the single flower is incredible!  Wonderful job.
