On Thursday, May 27th, 10 year old Madison Felix and 26 year old Tim Miller, had their hair cut for a great cause at Hot Heads Unisex in Courtice.
The event, sponsored by Dianna Mandzuk, Sales Representative with RE/Max Jazz in Oshawa, raised money for Angel Hair for Kids, a program that makes wigs for children in need.
Madison, the daughter of Lori Felix, Dianna's Administrative Assistant, cut off 11 inches of hair and Tim, the son of Dianna's Licensed Administrative Assistant Colleen Miller, had 13 inches taken off.
This was Madison's second hair donation to Angel Hair for Kids.
"I donated my hair four years ago, and I had to wait for it to grow back before I could do it again," says Madison.
In addition to donating their hair, Madison and Tim also raised money for this great cause. Spurred on by a significant donation from Dianna, together they were able to raise over $2,500!
"I am happy to support the Angel Hair for Kids program," says Dianna. "It's a unique Canadian charity that benefits children. I'm really proud of both Madison and Tim for braving the scissors and for raising money for this great cause."
On average it takes approximately 10 to 12 ponytails and $800 to create one wig.
Angel Hair for Kids is a program run by A Child's Voice Foundation that provides wigs and hair loss solutions to financially disadvantaged children who have lost their hair due to a medical condition or treatment. Using hair that is generously donated to the program, Angel Hair for Kids can create wigs and hair systems and provide them to children in need at no cost to their families. Since its inception six years ago, the program has provided wig systems at no charge to over 150 children and the demand is steadily increasing.
