The Lake Hartwell Marketing Alliance is pleased to announce the Triple Crown Watercross, a personal watercraft racing tour, will roar onto Lake Hartwell August 13-15, 2010. The Lake Hartwell Marketing Alliance is comprised of 150 tourism professionals and businesses with an interest in the lake. All live or work in the six counties surrounding Lake Hartwell: Anderson, Oconee & Pickens in South Carolina and Hart, Franklin and Stephens in Georgia.

The Big Oaks Recreation Area in Georgia will host the Toyota Upstate Watercraft Promotions-International Jet Sport Boating Association (UWP-IJSBA) Tour, one of the nation’s leading personal watercraft racing circuits. All events on the Tour include Closed Course and Freestyle competitions. The event is a stop on the International Jet Sport Boating Association's National Tour. Each event is set up to not only attract experienced circuit racers, but to also give competitors who have little or no racing experience, an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and compete in a safe environment.

This two day event will consist of personal watercrafts battling handle bar to handle bar on the lake’s typically quiet waters. The event will bring competitors one step closer in determining who will become the next national winner of the UWP-IJSBA Watercross National Championship. Lake Hartwell's proximity to major cities such as Atlanta, Greenville and Charlotte should attract a large number of spectators and athletes. Typically, between 200 and 250 athletes come to compete and they bring additional people with them.

The Triple Crown of Watercross highlights three different premiere classes. The Pro Ski G.P., Pro Freestyle, and Pro Runabout 1200 Open. Each Champion will earn themselves one of the coveted triples crowns for their class.

The stand-up ski class crafts will run between 65 and 70 miles per hour. The runabouts are the sit-down crafts and they can reach speeds of more than 90 miles per hour. The most popular class is the freestyle. They can do flips, barrel rolls and even go submerged!

The Big Oaks Recreation Area is just 13 miles south of I-85 on U.S. Hwy. 29. For more information, visit www.uwpinc.com. You may also contact: Bill Griggs (706) 377-3625

The lake is back at full pool again. It is amazing to see the Freestyle events and this should be a great family friendly event.
