Side note: My 3 year old son asked my wife where Dad was while I was at the seminar, and she told him he was at school. He immediately asked “So he’s 5 now?”
Thursday, I went to Raincamp in Bellingham, WA. I woke up at some ungodly hour to make the 3hr drive, which you can read about my apprehension and the Sacrifices Made to Attend Raincamp that I went through that early in the morning. If you don't know what Raincamp is you should really check it out.
I arrived bright and early, actually a half an hour before registration. After finding a place to park, I went to relieve myself, maybe TMI here, but hey it’s my blog. In my post long drive, very early morning delirium I left my cell phone in the bathroom stall. I went back to get my most trusted friend, and to my horror someone was using that stall! I was unsure how to deal with this awkward situation, should I just ask some stranger if my phone was in there. I hesitated for a few seconds. Whoever was in there said loudly, “Did you leave something in here?” “Yeah I did” I replied. Ok, that part was over, now how to get it back? I was already embarrassed for interrupting his alone time. Abruptly, and quickly my phone came skidding out from under the stall, reminding me of some movie where the killer's smoking gun was kicked across the floor.
Walking up to registration, some young guy, short dark hair in non descript clothing, and laptop under his arm got out of his Range Rover. We looked at one another, gave each other a head nod and he asked “How ya doin’?” “I’m tired, it’s been a long drive, but you look like you’re ready to rock and roll and this seminar!” Little did I know at the time this was the illustrious speaker Ben Kinney(free outbound link Ben).
There were so many current and powerful ideas, that I’ll write an entire blog about those next, but at the end I realize the future of real estate was upon us.
I had become a Dinosaur(MAN!!! Never thought I'd say that!!!) and had to revamp, rethink, remodel, change and grow my Business Strategy and Marketing Plan
My initial overall feeling is that an agent's business of lead generation had evolved from:
- Post cards
- Sphere of influence
- Past client databases
- Cold calling
- Door knocking
To a synergy of:
- Powerfully Contented Internet Marketing
- Consistent Hyper Local Blogging
- Social Media Awareness and Activity
- Comprehensive Search Engine Optimization
- Being Remarkable and Rememberable
Real Estate Agents should now be fishing for leads, and once we get a bite we need to pounce like a hunter, as opposed to hunting our prospects from the very beginning.
Man I have a ton of work to do...
