Spring Track…is proud papa time for me.
On Saturday (of the Memorial Day weekend) the Class I championship was held at Coe Brown Academy. I was unable to attend this year due to real estate obligations, but if it was anything like last year I’m sure there was a huge turn out. My son Conor was scheduled for three events: the Triple jump, 4 x 400 meter relay and the individual 400 meter events. In the triple he had a best first jump of 41 feet, but the coaches pulled him from the last two attempts to save him for the running events…the winning distance was 44 feet leaving Conor in 6th without chance to improve.
One for the team…the 400 relay.
P.S. the Cornrow hair thing was to appease the team…many of the boys went with Mohawks hair cuts…but they couldn’t get Conor to cut those curly locks.
Conor was the third guy to touch the baton, and made up much of the time the team had fallen back (posting the fastest time on the track, of all the split times of the day)…our boys managed to hold on to forth overall and a trip to the Meet of Champions next week. Which are all schools regardless of size or classification.
The individual 400 meter…the one he came for.
In Conor’s heat, he was to compete with this year’s record holder and senior with more experience. My son has admitted to me it takes him an hour after one big event to be ready to run the next challenge and be at his best. None the less the state championship doesn’t wait for a breather. He was nudged out at the finish to place second and secure a trip to the meet of champions next week. For the records if you are looking for me next Saturday I will not be in the office.
My wife took a picture of the results…
A second place finish for Conor, with a time that would have won the state championship last year (see 2009 winners results) and the opportunity to run his best event next week without prior distractions.
No Wagering on the 11 year old record...but my High school Junior, has this year and next to break it.
Working weekends in real estate is often a must for me...but not next weekend, Good Luck Conor.
...Sorry I missed this one, but 26 years as a Realtor has caused me to miss a few important events...luckily not all of them!!
