Speechless Sunday - Windows To The Past

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Real Estate Centre Inc., Brokerage

Historic homes and buildings hold many stories and secrets from the past.  It's important that we embrace history and capture it to share with  future generations.

As time marches on, and land to build on becomes scarce in many areas, it is important to preserve our community's historic sites.  A big thank you goes out to those who work on our behalf to save these buildings for all to enjoy.

Yes, we are losing many due to decay and no funds for restoration.  And yes we are losing far too many to the wrecking ball for new home development.

I find nothing more gratifying than to find a charming old building and create a photo opportunity out of it.

If only those walls could talk.

All it takes is a little imagination and I can hear those walls telling their stories. The image with the blue door reminds me of many in Santa Fe. Thanks for your creative post!

Yes Jenny it is a shame that homes with character are being demolished and imagine if their walls really could talk, the stories, the history.

Jenny those are some very nice photos and put together very well. Older homes have so much character and there are too few people with the time and resources to restore them. Today people want it all fresh and clean and for them the lot that the old house is on is the prize.

Beautiful collage Jenny.  Windows allow you to look out but also allow to glimps into the lives of those living behind those walls.

Hi Jenny, what a creative way to display those beautiful old homes. Although they are not energy efficient, I love the old paned windows, painted and peeling they are always one of my favorite parts of an old structure.

You are such a good photographer, I saw your butterfly on Bruce's post and love your new background photo collage with all the gorgeous flowers!  Good job my friend!

What a great idea, and fantastic presentation. I love the way you have them laid out on the grid. And it's so cool to see so many types of historic windows =)

Hi Jenny,

Love your text and the photos to go with it.  The easy solution would be to bulldoze many of these run down structures, but our future generations will be the loser when these historic homes are razed.

I especially like your photo of that cathedral window in the lower right hand corner.

Thanks Maria, I've just joined.  I didn't know about this group.  Thanks for letting me know about it.

Thanks Dawn, it was pretty easy to do with Picasa and fun also.

Hi Emily, the blue door is from a very old log cabin that has been moved to a new site.  It's now the home of a local Historical Society.  So glad they have preserved it.

Al and Peg, I'm sure back then they went to bed a lot earlier than we do lol.  No distractions like AR, TV, etc.  No wonder they all had 10 kids.

Hi Ed, very well said.  You are right but I never thought about it that way, about the lot being the prize.  There have been too many heritage homes bulldozed in the past here before anyone could save them.

Hi Silvia, speaking of windows.  I would love to have huge windows and not have to have curtains or blinds.  It always amazes me how many people never open their curtains to let the sun in.  Sad really.

Hi Jon, well I guess I will have to figure out a way to make the photo bigger for you to see lol.  Let me put my thinking cap on.

Jenny,

I love this!  What a great collection.  I just took a picture through the windows of old abandoned root cellar  with the Palouse hills in the distance.  It was one of my best pictures IMHO.
