My husband, Jeff Quigley, is an Art Director in the advertising industry. His clients are in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Hong Kong, Calgary, Ottawa, to name a few.
You would think that he is jet setting around the world to keep up - but no. He does all of his work from his office at home and relies in conference calls, email, cell phone and the internet.
In my business, I am on the road a little more. But unless I am meeting with an agent or consulting on a client's home - I can be found in my home office too.
It's great to be able to see the kids off to school, meet them on their way home and avoid the high cost of daycare.
People often mistakenly think that because we work from home we have all sorts of free time. They don't see us taking calls at 9PM or starting work at 6AM, your work is always there and you can't help checking email, or "doing one more thing".
Often neighbors expect us to be their back up babysitters after school because they know we are here. So there are downfalls.
Many people also feel isolated when working from home, we don't have that problem because we're both here.
If you can work from home, I say do it - think about the time it takes you to commute and how much better your business would be if that time were spent working on building it.
