Suffern NY Memorial Day Parade - A Day to Remember
Memorial Day is not just a day for barbecues, or the day that marks the beginning of the summer season. It began in 1865 as a day to honor Union soldiers that died in the Civil War fighting for their country. Because it began as a day to commemorate Union soldiers, many Southern states didn't begin to observe the day until after World War I when it officially became a day to honor all fallen soldiers from all wars.
The Village of Suffern Memorial Day Parade sponsored by the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and the American Legion will take place Monday, May 31, at 10:30 a.m. The parade will go up Lafayette Avenue to the Soldiers Monument.
Let's show our appreciation for those that sacrificed their lives to protect our country and ensure our freedom - join our veteran's as they march.
