Historic Fourth Ward Charlotte NC

First Methodist Church, built 1927

Historic Fourth Ward is comprised of the the northwest quadrant of Charlotte's Uptown area which was resurrected in the mid-1800s and was one of the more prosperous areas of town, providing homes to local merchants, physicians and ministers.  The First Methodist, First Presbyterian, and St. Peters Episcopal Churches are all part of the Historic Fourth Ward and by the 1900's, became nearly desolate as many residents moved to the 'suburbs' of Dilworth and Myers Park.

Historic Home in Fourth Ward

Many of the beautiful Victorian homes were either destroyed or became commercial buildings and by 1970, Fourth Ward had fallen into a state of neglect.  The late 20th century brought restoration to Fourth Ward which is now a thriving part of Charlotte's Uptown.

The architecture of that church pictured is gorgeous.  Reminds me of the church my parents married in!

Thanks, Everyone!  Historic Fourth Ward in Charlotte NC is one of my favorite places!  The history is at nearly every turn and the developers have done a fabulous job of intermixing the old with the new in Charlotte NC Uptown - it's a great place to live, work AND play--and even get married, Renee!
