Since Sprint is about to release the EVO phone by HTC on Friday, June 4th, I figured we should jump the gun a bit and start preparing a list of the top real estate Android applications.

For any Realtors or Lenders that are currently using the Android operating system, please provide feedback on your favorite real estate applications.

This way, when Realtors first start converting over (like I will be on Friday), we can hit the ground running!

My understanding is that Supra (GE) is still months out on being able to use this for their IBOX lock boxes.

I am thinking we need:

  • calculators
  • mapping programs
  • GPS modules
  • news readers
Looking at www.Android.com I see a few that look promising:
  • NY Times
  • Twitter
  • Mint.com Personal Finance
  • Zillow Real Estate
  • Google Earth
  • Wordpress
  • Trapster (only if you care about police speed traps, red lights, etc.)
  • Android VNC Viewer
  • PDA Net Free Edition
  • Live Chat
  • Skype Mobile
  • etc.
Please share what is and isn't working for you so I can update this list.

Keep in mind that Sprint offers great NAR discounts!

i update my phone too often as it is.  I just dumped my iphone and went to a blackberry, going to try that for a few months and see if I like it better.  I dont use many of the aps, I just dont have time or interest in some of the gimmicks right now and just really want a phone that I can use to speak to clients and make money.

My son just purchased a Android with Verizon. We will be watching your post to see which app works best.

Jim - I currently have a Blackberry but, I'm quite interested in the new android phone and what it can do.

8:36am • #5

Hey Jim, the google maps app has turn by turn gps built in it and its free also you don't need pda net because the new Android has tethering built in you can either connect with a USB cord or turn your phone into a wifi hotspot. If you have a google voice account you can use that app as well to make and receive calls. Now also adobe flash is available as well as adobe reader.

I am a cell phone junkie and have been through them all (from the car mounted radio phones 18 years ago, to the brick style cell phones, the Kryocera 7135, Nextels text based webphones, to five versions of a Treo and now a Blackberry.

This new EVO has me salivating waiting for the release tomorrow.

Gary, you are right that the EVO has the ability to work as a WIFI hotspot, but I am curious if you can use PDA Net without having to pay for their "extra" hotspot service package at another $29 a month.  I used to use that on my Treo's instead of paying for a second set of all you can use data.

Hi Jim, I didn't see on your list Facebook for Android which came on my Droid (Verizon). I asked on LinkedIN about an app for Droid and was told there's not one yet so I was looking here to see if you had anything new.

I be Droiding

Jim I got the Droid Incredible by HTC which I think is the same phone or very similar. The link above is a blog on my favorite app, Google Translate. It's probably not as valuable to you in Idaho but in AZ it's incredible to be able to converse in in Spanish and have a spanish speaking person converse with you just by talking into the phone.

I also like Zillow, Compass, Flashlight, unit converter, Where's my droid, and Dog Whistler which turn your droid into an adjustable High Frequency adjustable Dog Whistle. I find this is a great way to annoy my friends with better hearing. One word of advise. Don't use this at church to wake up a dozing parishioner.

Teral, I will be getting my phone in the AM and will see if it comes with a Facebook app.  I saw some Beta versions if nothing else.

Mark, I will definately have to check out Google Translate since all the Spanish speaking people will be moving to Idaho from Arizona due to the pressure they are getting in Arizona (grin).

Just picked mine up at the Sprint store and getting it set up.  The new keyboard shortcut for "Ubercool" is "EVO"!  I think I need to change my voicemail greeting to say "Sorry I can't take your call right now, I am too busy playing and downloading apps with my EVO"!

The local store sold out by 9:10 this morning.  Only two people that didn't preorder and prepay got one!

How did it go; the switch to the Droid?

Mine went pretty seamless.  The store converted over my contacts for me.  I have not yet converted over my calendars, etc. but anticipate it going fairly smooth too.

I took some video at my sons basketball game today and plugged it into my 32" LCD and it was a bit grainy but acceptable video.  Would have never thought of that with my other cell phone!

I am loving the speech to text converters!  I use it to find things on Google and to text message.  It is only about 80 accurate but my typing is only 90 so that's not bad (grin)

I am curious how many of you have androids? Is there a poll somewhere on rainmaker or NAR. I was shocked to find out that Docusign was not moving forward to create an app for the Android OS. Although I work as a tech person for a real estate brokerage (my background is in tech), I am frustrated that Docusign doesn't see a big enough market share to create an app. I am working with friends to hopefully develop an app in the very near future. So who would be interested on this list for a Docusign app? Is there anyway to push a survey on this to try and capture at least a number to make the case for this app?

thanks

Eduardo

Two Words = LOVE IT!

I eat the battery way too quickly because I live on the phone but that is not the phones fault.  I like being able to use it to connect to my Tablet PC without carrying cords or having to attach anything for the internet.  The 4G is still spotty and doesn't work well inside some buildings.

Supra is working on a Bluetooth to infra red adapter so in two months that issue should be resolved so I can use it to open my lockboxes. In a year, they should release the bluetooth IBOX's so that will be even better, but of course by then I will be using a newer phone again.

I need to look into Eduardo's comments about Docusign.  I also need to see if LPS has applications for Transaction Point.

I have used the Kryocera 7315; Treo 600, 650, 700P, and 800W; in addition to a Blackberry and this phone beats them all!

Just got my EVO on Saturday.  Switched over from an iphone and it has been a fairly tough transition.  The battery life is not that great on the EVO, but I did find an app called Advanced Task Manager that helps alot.  There is another app called Battery Time Lite that helps monitor battery usage.  Astro File Manger helps organize the files on your SD card.

Thanks for opening up this topic, and would love to hear more about Real Estate related apps that you find.

They are always adding more apps so these phones will just keep getting better and better!

@Edwardo, I can read DocuSign documents on my phone and can log into my account but have not yet tried to "create" a DocuSign file for signature.

@Marjorie, when I disable the 4G and the GPS until I needed it helped the battery life a ton!

Additional apps I have recently downloaded that apply to real estate (kind of):

  • Congress (was beneficial in tracking the Homebuyer tax credit last month);
  • Kindle for the Android;
  • Flashlight (very helpful for when you forgot a real one)

Might buy:
  • LogMeIn Ignition (to remotely access my office files)

I also just became a Business2Business Outside Sales Rep for Sprint so if anyone on AR wants to switch over to take advantage of the 4G or the WIFI Hotspots (for secure access instead of open access at your coffee shop) send me a private message.  Getting a Business account via Sprint brings some nice additional benefits including:
  • Sprint Business Premier customer service;
  • One year upgrades instead of two;
  • No rebate required pricing (buy at the rebate price)
  • Discounted plans.

I plan on getting a Droid soon myself. It just looks like the ANDROID operating system has better survivability outlook than IPHONE/APPLE.

@Drick, I am extremely pleased still with my EVO.  My clients like the fact that when I meet them in a public place and use my own secure wifi, they know I treat their confidential data and files carefully.

I love my droid as well.  I got the realtor.com app and it works great on the droid.

@Virginia, I am glad you mentioned the Realtor.com application.  I also downloaded it last week and and amazed at how you can just draw an area on the map screen with your finger and it pulls up listings within that area too.
