Filename: j0315562.jpgA common question from home stagers is why real estate agents fail to see the value in our services.

For me, the answer is easy – we are a new industry and we can’t expect to change the world overnight.

Take instant coffee for example, I once read an article outlining the problems of selling instant coffee back in the 1950’s.

The manufacturers thought that they had this great product that housewives across North America would buy by the busload because of all the TIME it will save them.

And what happened? Sales were pitiful to say the least. After actually talking with women and asking their opinion, they soon discovered that the problem was the product itself but rather their perception of the product.

I think that the same problem existing in home staging. Our services benefit everyone involved in a different way.

Listing Agent

- Properties that show well reflect positively on them
- Home staging is a great listing benefit to attract clients
- A well presented home will turn viewings into offers
- Listings that sell faster require less time (fewer open houses) and less money (fewer ads to place)
- Homes that sell faster makes for happier clients…happy clients will refer you

Homeowner
- By showing the home at its best results in a quicker sale and less viewings (how many times has a client had to run around like an idiot desperately getting their house ready for a viewing – it gets tiring!)
- Staged homes can also help the home sell at a better price

Buyer
- Purchasing a home that has been staged means that they have a home that is move in ready
- Less work, repairs and painting when they move in (most of this should be done already)

Selling Agent
- By taking clients to home that have been staged means that their clients will find a home faster

The job of home stagers everywhere is to help get a simple message out.

“Home staging will help properties sell faster and for a better price”

It is also important to emphasize that home staging benefits everyone in the buying/selling process. Many agents don't understand how affordable home stagin is. We're doing an esy poll to see what agents think our services would cost.

We are a new industry, and just as it took a little time for instant coffee to be a mainstay in most homes, the same is true for home staging. Give it a little time; before we know it, home staging will play a key role in the real estate industry.

Thank you, Lucie for speaking for all of us in the Home Staging industry!  You made a beautiful presentation and I loved how you tied in the fact that like other new trends, even Instant Coffee was not well received at first.

While there is an air of excitement and expectancy when a new product or trend is created, the 'rush' quickly dissipates when there is no reciprocal excitement or acceptance.

The true test will be which stagers can ride out the wave of resistance and wait for that glorious day when stagers and realtors work together as 'one'!!
